Hi Michele, That is so kind of you. Its just so hard dealing with the separation. Any advice will certainly help. Thanks for being there.
You know what? I did the same thing....calling the cell to hear my sons voice. You're not losing it, trust me. ;)

Once they're out of b/c it'll get better.....promise.

Elaine
Pat,
My boy is in his 3rd week and you are not losing it. I miss him so much it hurts. I can think of nothing else all day. He called for the first time the other night and it was so wonderful to hear his voice. I sleep with his hoodie each night.:0) He thinks thats funny. I never thought I could miss anyone so much. You should be receiving a phone call soon. Hang in there and if you find you are hanging low email us thats what I do. Much love Linda
I know as a mom that is hard to hear...I am sorry you are hurt.:0( If they only knew how it feels to be a parent.
Hi,
My name is Sharon. I am so glad that I found this website. I was starting to feel that I may need professional help. LOL
My son left 2/4 and will graduate from BC 3/28. I miss him so much. Also, extremely proud of him.
I do have a question and since I am new to this forum, I am not sure where I ask my question. But here goes..
For anyone who has already been to graduation, did you stay through Sunday night? If John gets liberty for the weekend, I don't know how long it will be on Sunday. Any suggestions?
Hi Sharon!

I just returned from graduation. My son graduated 3/7/08. My daughter and I drove to Chicago from Missouri and stayed through Saturday morning. His father stayed til Sunday morning. Most of the grads receive liberty from right after graduation (10:30 Friday morning) til 7 that night. Then again Saturday morning from 7:30 til 8:30 that evening. Sunday I believe is either the same or close to it.

They have to follow strict rules while on liberty such as not bringing anything back on base with them. One of the guys in my sons division brought back contacts and solution and was docked liberty time. And make sure he's not late....that'll cost him time too.

Have a great time! It's a moment in time that you're going to remember forever!

Elaine
Thanks Elaine, I can't wait !
Yes, you can stay. But your son will probably have to be back on base sometime that evening. You probably won't get to see him on Monday - unless it is a Federal holiday (Feb. 18) was Presiden'ts Day for us!! We just got lucky!!!!
Hi all,
My name is Patty. My oldest son Andy (or Andrew as he now calls himself!) has been in the Navy since June 2004. Reading all the comments from the parents of the kids in basic training brings back memories. On one hand, it seems like a lifetime ago that my son was at the RTC, but on the other hand, I can't believe his 4 years are almost up. It really truly does get easier. Once they're out of basic training and through their job training, it becomes more like a regular job - albeit a job in a different state/country! I hear from my son almost every day either via email or a phone call, or both.
Joining the Navy was by far the best choice he could have made. He wasn't ready for college yet, but wanted to start his life. The training and work experience he has had in the last 4 years has been terrific. He's been able to travel some, to places he'd probably have never gone. When he was stationed in South Korea, MWR offered trips they could take at pretty reasonable prices. He was able to go to Thailand and Seoul (he was stationed in Chinhae so Seoul was a "world" away culturally).
I'll stop my rambling and just end with telling the new Navy Moms to hang in there. You'll be fine and so will your kids and in no time you'll be on a regular routine of communication. Basic training is the worst because of the lack of communication, but once they're able to communicate on a regular basis, you will have great peace of mind and be able to focus on the great young men and women your children have grown in to without the added worries.
thank you very much but life is better for them in the recervse i think its all paid for and a great career thank alot for thae advise it sure helps thanks god bless all
Patty thank you for your wonder experience in this whole Navy basic training and beyond. My son Cameron graduates April 18th and I received my first phone call last night. I felt like I had been given the best gift from God! He is ok not liking boot camp but who does? He is a little homesick I can tell but he won't say. He said he misses us so much. I am not to the point of thinking of where he will go after A school yet its too overwhelming to think he will be far away. It's so hard to let him go that far in my mind. I know he will do well and I pray he is happy. thanks.
