What field did your son go into? Mine actually wants to go to Iraq with the Marines
Hey Georgette - I went to Orlando too in Nov. of 1983
Jawona - The CO of RTC also went to bootcamp in 11/83 (if I remember reading it correctly). Any chance you were in the same company???
Hey Georgette,
Welcome! We are mom's and no matter if we have done it (BC) its still hard when our kids go. I guess you may know how your parents felt when you left.:) My son is going on his 4th week and I am much better than I was the first 2 weeks. Once I got letters and 1 phone call I felt great! It was so good to hear his voice. It will get better hang in there!
Hey everyone!! My name is Sheila and I live in Muskegon, Michigan with my husband and 12 yr old. My son left for BC 2/26/08. I also have another son who graduated marine BC one week before Justin left. Although I'm happy and proud....I am more sad at this point! I wasn't quite done being a mom yet or raising them yet and they left me anyway....lol Anyway each day gets a little easier. I've only received one letter but it was enough to ease my mind for a bit. My granddaughter Kylin has helped me through alot of this, but its just not the same :0( anyway I am so thankful for you girls....it has really made a difference. I didnt realize there were sooo many moms that were as close to their child as I was....well here's to a happier day!!
What Ship and Division is your son in? My son left that same time 2/25. Ship 12 Division 157 I have not found anyone in that same division.
Hello Sheila, We are originally from Michigan but now in Chicago area. Our son is a week behind yours in DIV 169. Hope to talk to you again. YEAH MICHIGAN. Pat
OK..so my name is Susan, my youngest son is in the Navy, and he is an MM3 right now in the nuclear field. My interests are sheep and dogs, that I show and my kids did when they lived at home. My family is pretty much all military and mostly Navy. My oldest son is an auto tech for Audi, and he also does Muey Thai kick boxing..yea as if I dont have enough stuff to worry about! My youngest son the sailor had always wanted to be in the Navy as part of a family tradition. His great uncle Don was a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient in WWII when he was on the USS Franklin. Now with a ship commissioned after him the USS Gary FFG51, my young son has a lot to live up to! I know he is a hard working kid as growing up on a small ranch with tons of chores..I bet all you moms heard this comment.."But I dont have a life, with all these chores!" made him a responsible person. Yes life was never easy as a single parent running things here at home, but my boys are good men now and know the meaning of hard work..I am so proud of BOTH my sons!
Hi Bonnie- Males and females pretty do everything together. They don't seperate them during training, only when it comes to their barracks. They swim together do all of their training mixed. If you go to utube and search Navy bootcamp, there is a video of what they go through during boot camp, and you will see that they do all of their training together.
oh, thanks for the information, I'll check out Utube--!! I wondered how they all managed to keep separate...guess they don't!
I wish you the best, I know how hard these next few days will be! That first phone call or letter will make all the difference. (3 weeks) Write to him and send pictures. He will appreciate it! Big hug to you!
