Hi all-

Just wanted to say first this is a great site!

Anyways, I'm currently thinking about joining the Navy (obviously, and as you can tell I'm also not a Navy mom) and I have so many questions!  I don't really think any certain answers would deter me from joining but it would be a huge relief to find out what is true and what is false.

Here is my super long list of questions, any and all help would be appreciated (also, please don't laugh at any girly questions, I'm fully prepared for the worst right now haha).

1) What is the Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program?

 2) How can I sign up for the BDCP?

 3) Is it possible to complete Boot Camp and A School separately so that I won’t have to take a semester off school?

 4) Exactly how much money will I be eligible for concerning college?

 5) Do the Naval Reserves have the same kind of medical benefits as active sailors?  If so, what are they?

 6) What will I be required to bring to boot camp?

 7) What are the physical requirements for boot camp?  How do you recommend I work up to the necessary levels for sit-ups, crunches, and swimming?

 8) What kind of knowledge of swimming is necessary for boot camp?  Is there any particular stroke I will have to do, etc?  How
fast will I have to swim?

 9) Are the showers at boot camp group showers?  How long of a time period do we have for a shower?

 10) Will I be allowed to shave during boot camp?

 11) Can I bring lotion to boot camp?  If not may I have it mailed to me?  Am I permitted to bring makeup for pictures/graduation etc?

13) Can I bring Chapstick to boot camp?

 14) When would I be getting my glasses for boot camp and what will I be required to do in the mean time?

 15) What exactly does the navy give each recruit? Everything? Even pajamas etc?

 16) How long are meals at boot camp?

 17) What should I know about the Navy before I arrive at boot camp?  What will I learn about and be tested on while I am there?

 18) Does the Navy provide irons for everybody to iron their clothes with?

 19) What are the uniforms the Navy issues currently?

20) How do you recommend I explain my choice to my boyfriend, friends, and family members? (boyfriend is very against me joining the military by the way)

I plan on asking my recruiter all these questions but more than one source would be great!

Thanks so much!

Katie

Thanks so much for answering my questions! :-)
Hi thanks for responding to my questions!

I want to join the Navy because I'm looking for something more in my life. I like college but it just doesn't feel like enough. I'm also looking for some job security too I guess. I just think that the Navy sounds awesome all around.
p.s. Thanks for the link to the training guide!
hi thanks so much for responding to my post!

i'm not too worried about the glasses haha ( i figure most people will be wearing them).

i'm interested in computers, advertising, and print layouts (magazines etc). my current major is graphics & multimedia. i'm also pretty good with photography. i don't know if i would be able to do anything with any of the above in the navy. i would like to possibly work in publishing someday.

thanks again :-)
