It seems as though the recruits are on a different planet. What's the food like? Did he get his sharpshooter pin? Has he made a close friend? What kind of classes has he taken so far? Has he had to do extra PT (physical training) as a result of someone goofing up?
They don't have a lot of time for writing letters so don't be disappointed if your answers are short. The highlight of the day is mail call just before lights out. As my son put it: If you don't get mail you're down. If you do get mail - you're loved. Send him a note as often as you can even if it's just about ordinary daily activities or what's going on with his friends. Mail is what makes boot camp tolerable. Letters from YOU will mean the most to him. It's good that you are thinking about him and letting him know. If you say something like you cried yourself to sleep he won't get the letter - somehow they screen mail. They guard their emotional balance and want everything to be positive.
You must be proud of him. Something good comes of everything. I know it's difficult for you to be away from him but good will come to you too because of his involvement in the Navy. Take care.
Thanks for telling me about the crying thing with my luck i would put that and he would think i never wrote ...but i plan on sending him a letter for everyday and have one with me when he is finished for him to read. and can they get pictures? or will they not let them have those?
i told blake i would send him a picture of me and other stuff from everdyday
Hi Whitney, You can send pictures and other paper items. No food or gum though - it will get confiscated. He's lucky to have you. Thinking of you will help him when times get tough for him.
thank you he knows im worried to death about him i told him he and his brother will be the death of me they are going to give me heartattacks by the end of the year, his brother is army and just finished with basic and came home sep. 11 he is my best friend
There was a questionairre on here awhile back that had some funny ones.....
You can ask the question then put answers for him to circle.....

How is the food there? Better than mom's - Good - Bad - Tastes like dirt.....

He should get a laugh if you put some like that in....
I used to send my son letters with pictures printed out on the letter....They love to get pictures....
do they really screen letters? how can they do that, wouldnt the letters be opened when they got them then?
Bri, I'm glad to hear they dont screen the letters. We also had some emotional conversations in our letters and I would hate for someone to be reading them. But the weird thing is, I told him a story in a letter about an event that happened come to find out when I talked to him about it he said he never got a letter with that information in it. Weird.
