So my boyfriend left for BC in GL on Tuesday. He was telling me a little bit about A school and I wanted to ask some question to verify if he was right.

Does he get to have a cell phone in A school? And if not is he allowed to call home often?

Is he able to come home at all? If so, how many times?(he told me he will have weekends off and that he can travel up to 250 miles from GL)

How long does A school last?

If I think of any more I'll just ask later.

Okay. I know I won't know more until he actually gets to PIR and is on his way to "A" school.
thanks for the information :)
Hello this question is for hoppi aka angie...are there only A schools in Glakes?
I know bootcamp is in glakes but just wanted to know if theres Aschools everywhere in us?
I saw you indicated different initials for each A school at Great Lakes, My son is graduating on the 7th of May Ship 06 Div 925. He knows he will be at A school for 12 weeks for DC. (Damage Control). He says he is staying right there and I know he will give me the info I need, I was just curious what you might know about DC. Thanks
I was DC when I was in the Navy. What do you want to know?
There usually isn't much of an A school ceremony, usually handing out certificates, maybe some pictures. There's a bit more if they know beforehand that family is coming. EM A school for the nuke program? If so, and if you have to travel any distance, save it for the Power School graduation, that's the big one for nukes.

My ET A school graduation was handing out certificates as we stood in ranks in the hall. No family showed up, and personally I was glad as we got liberty immediately after. LOL, the quicker the better for me! Of course, they're all different.
