Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed.  Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Please some answers...

My son came home from college after a year and a half of college and told us he wanted to join the Navy. We were not surprised because when he graduated from high school he talked to a recruiter, however we convinced him to try college first, because his father served in the USMC and we knew about military life. 

He wasn't even home a week. It was one day at the recruiter's office and the next day at MEPS. My concern is that when he went to MEPS (even though we told him NOT to sign anything unless it read the way he wanted to)  he signed a reserve contract for New accession training CTT class A school guarantee and was told that day there were no active duty contracts available but to get his foot in the door his recruiter told him to go ahead and sign it. After talking to the recruiter a week later he assured us that our son would not leave for boot camp under the reserve contract and it was not binding until the day he leaves and he would do everything he could to make sure it was an active duty contract. Does all of this sound normal? This past week my son's recruiter did a DAR, what is that? He is scheduled to leave July 2011 and I am concerned that he has quit college and will now need to find a job while fulfilling his duty as a reserve.

Thank you...so many questions to be answered and I'm trying real hard not to be a helicopter mom but it is hard. I am very PROUD of his decision but just want to make sure he knows exactly what is going on during this process.

 

from what i have heard from another forum, there are essentially no active duty jobs for males right now.
If he leaves for bootcamp with the reserve contract, he can not change it. Also the DAR's don't always work.

He talked to his recruiter today and is due to go back and sign a new contract at the end of the month.

 

That is if there is an opening, the recruiter is only guessing there will be an opening.  Good luck.
You can go to the Navy Reservist Group and ask your question there as well.  One mom told me that her son is signed as a reservist, but is actually an Active Duty Reservist because there was money in that pot and not in the Active Duty pot when her son signed.  Crazy...  It is my understanding that a reservist can also volunteer for active duty positions when other reservists get called up and don't want to take them, but I'm not sure how much paperwork that requires (though I'm likely to find out).  Good luck!
