no, they don't have leave after boot camp graduation (PIR). They do have liberty - but how much depends on whether they are staying in Great Lakes for A-school or flying out.

If they are flying out, they'll have liberty the afternoon/early evening of PIR but will have to be back on base at a specific time and then they will most likely fly out the next day and you can meet them at the airport and spend time with them before they board.

If they are staying in Great Lakes for A-school, then they won't be released quite as early on PIR day as they have to check into their new barracks but they will have liberty then and probably over the weekend also (but not overnight - they have to check back in every evening at a specified time).

they do usually get leave after A-school though

Good Afternoon NavyMom3051, how you doing, Have you found out where your Sailor will be going to A school? Hope all is well and that you have found much info on all your questions. Great to have you along!

Hello everyone any recommendations on hotels to stay in

Hi Lakisha it just depends on where you want to stay? most of the Hotels are near the base. I stayed at residence INN because my Sailor wanted to go eat and then chill at hotel most do to relax, it had a kitchen, living room. after PIR we took him out to eat then we headed back so he can get on his tablet, Sat. we picked him up we had to sign him in and out. I made all his favorites for breakfast, in the afternoon we went shopping at Gurnee mall, Target and took him to eat pizza. again he wanted to go relax at the room. We also had a shuttle to PIR 4.00 a person not bad at all. so it really depends on you on what your likings are. it was very clean, quite, and the people are very friendly, free continental breakfast also. Hope this helps.

They graduate in the morning and they have the rest of the day off until they have to be back in the evening and then the buses leave immediately starting at midnight to take them to the airport and if you want to spend time with your sailor till they fly off to A school, you need to be at the airport to meet them which means some families were up at 2 a.m. heading to the airport. We made our flights late in the day out of O'Hare hoping to be able to stay with our girl all day and guess what she flew out of Midway. Fortunately we met friends at the Navy Lodge who took all her things and her phone to Midway with them and gave them to her. Many families were able to spend the entire day at Midway with their kids but then of course a whole bunch of Navy kids also went out of O'Hare you just don't know
