What is the best/cheapest way for me purchase airline tickets for my son to come home for his leave?

Love your statement!!! It is soo true, they should buy their own tickets, they have money, plus they can go to ITT and ask for assistance, or they can google and look for different airlines.

Totally agree with you. No need for rude remarks. We're for support and help aren't we?

I do not think he was being rude at all...if people take it as rude, that is how they read it not how the person who posted it put it.

There is no one answer for what is best and the cheapest way...airlines are a profit company and they change their prices all the time.  You have to look...what worked for one will not work for another.  We fly to WA all the time and take different airlines each time, it just depends what we find the cheapest.

When I was active duty, I used the travel office on base.  Who pays for the tickets and why is entirely your business, of course.

As a civilian, I've had the best luck with Kayak as a search.  TIP: Clear your browser between searches or the prices only go up.  Also, the cheapest flight often means a lot of layovers, and layovers in winter weather can be bad news.  Pony up a little more for direct flights, especially on the return flight.  Carry on luggage only is also a smart move.

Great tip about the clearing browser!!!!

Where can my husband find the travel office at the base in GL?

When they are given their liberty brief they where told where they can go if they need assistance in buying their tickets.  I personally check on line for different deals...I recommend they get the airlines miles...I saved enough miles to fly free many times.

I would say, depends on where he is coming home to. Typically Southwest is competitive, but I don't know if they fly to your city.

I would say, be careful when making those reservations. The first year my son did, he incorrectly figured his time off and had to go back and change his flight. The airlines wanted to charge him an additional $150 for the change, so be careful. If you book his ticket through a website, you end up paying through the nose for any changes.

My personal opinion on who should pay

My son always pays for his own flights. When he gets home I insist on reimbursing him. I don't ever want him to have a reason to feel as if he can't make it home. Of course with him in Bahrain now, I'm not looking forward to that next flight home.

Is there a cheap way to fly home from Bahrain?
