OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Just wanted to say how very much I appreciate the OVERLOAD of information on this page.  Just reading through the questions and answers, I have learned so much.  My son is planning to officially enlist in two weeks. He will be in Deps as he is a High School Senior.  I'm sure I will have many more questions as this journey progresses but knowing where to go is super calming.

I'm a planner by nature and just knowing what to expect is great.

Thanks again for the support. I plan to GIVE back as soon as I can.

Thanks!   I have joined. I've read so much already.  I just couldn't imagine doing this without this forum. It would be so overwhelming.

Now, if I can learn to talk about it without crying.

SoSi the crying is Normal, I was a mess when I began, I really mean it, I felt like I was Mourning my Son. I wasn't use to letting him go and he never really was away from home. The one thing that got me through was staying busy. The Ladies here kept telling me to stay busy so you can focus on other things. It was harder than I thought but I tried it and it did keep me from worrying so much. Another thing was 'No News is good news" eventually you will come around. I was actually afraid to join this group because I thought the Ladies would think I was crazy, LOL! But this site was a godsend to me, I finally found other Mothers that knew what I was feeling and going thru. I have been at this now going on 2 yrs. this July. My Son is stationed on Coronado Island we just recently took him back to base, He is on a underway as we speak. Meaning he is out on the Sea Practicing with his Carrier. He is linked to the USS Theodore Roosevelt. Sometime this Year he will probably be out on Deployment again. It was nice speaking with you, let me know what I can do for you.

Thank you!  This is our last son ... so this season of parenting is 'over' for me.  So, I have been mourning all school year. The last first day, etc ... I am not a dramatic person so I have been surprised at my own feelings.  I'm so glad others can relate. I am a SAHM and LOVE being a Mother, but I am also SO PROUD of the sons I have been blessed with. I am their biggest cheerleader, it is just taking me a little while to "buy the Navy tshirt."  LOL
I do stay pretty busy and will intentionally do so when the time comes.
Naval life is so new to me. My Dad is an Army veteran, so this is like a whole other world.

The military choice was shocking for us, as our son has always been a super competitive student and highly focused on college.  However, after one particularly emotional night, I was finally able to realize there is no one I'd rather have protecting our country than such a smart, kind, strong, godly, patriotic son as mine. I know you all feel the same.
