Hello girls, My husband and I will be moving to Norfolk in July and since I am totally new to the area I was wondering if any of you could give me any pointers? I hear there are some parts of Norfolk to avoid as they are not safe... Since my husband and I havent decided yet on where we will be staying do any of you have any suggestions on where to live within Norfolk?

Thanks for your time!

There are parts of Norfolk ok to live in, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach are both ok, I would not recommend Portsmouth they are all very close to the base.

That actually helps alot! I think the hubby and I decided on Virginia Beach. Are you there currently, If you dont mind me asking?

My son is in the Navy we are from Hampton Roads, I grew in Chesapeake

Thats lovely! I am actually excited about the move :) the folks there seem very sweet!

Hey Girlie!

I recommend adding these two groups as there are plenty of lovely ladies who are willing to help you out with the move

Ladies of VA

Norfolk Sailors - Family & Friends

Also there is a Facebook page dedicated to Navy wives living in the Hampton Roads area (Norfolk)

This is their FB page name: Military Wives, Girlfriends, and Fiances of Hampton Roads

There are 3 sites that will help you out TREMENDOUSLY in your search for a new home..

hotpads.com (easy way to help you see where apartments and homes are located)

crimemapping.com (type in the address that you are interested in and it will show you all of the crime that has happened near the residence)

neighborhoodscout.com (gives you the best neighborhoods in terms of safety, schools, and value)

These sites have helped us out SO much in finding our home! Good luck with your hunt :)

Thank you that was so sweet of you! Xoxo its been quite stressful hunting for a new place to call home when your kind of "blind" because your only tool is the internet
The hubby and I live in Virginia Beach. Its nice, good area to raise our 13 month old. I wouldn't recommend Norfolk, I hate going there, even going to the stores makes me uncomfortable. Just my opinion. I'm hoping to move more toward Chesapeake when our lease is up.
@MRs L, Thats what I hear and Hubby and I already decided on Virginia Beach and are just now looking for an affordable 2 bedroom apartments. If you have any reccom. do share :) Hope to get to know you more!
