We dropped our son off at the recruiter's office a week ago today (Tuesday). We got the "I am here" call the next night, Wednesday, 9/2. While at the recruiter's office, he told us that our son's first two weeks would be in quarantine (which we already knew) and that he would be at Fort McCoy in a hotel-like room in total isolation for the 14 days before boot camp. While on his way to Chicago, our son heard that they may go to Great Wolf Lodge instead for quarantine. When we got his call, I looked on my phone to see where he was, and it showed him being at Great Lakes RTC. On Sunday, I did some on-line research, and I believe he is at Fort McCoy in what is called ROM. It looks like he may not be in isolation, but instead with a group. I hope this is true!
I supposed we might get some answers when we get the packet in the mail or when he calls us again in four weeks, but I'm impatient. It would also help to know so that we knew how to pray specifically for our son. Is there anyone that is in the same boat (or should I say, ship?) and wondering where their family member is?
Hi! My son left 9/1 and I received the scripted "I am here" call at 1 am Wednesday morning. He was able to tell me at the airport in Chicago that they were stopping at GL to get their gear. Not sure when he actually arrived at Fort McCoy but would love to know so I can know exactly when his quarantine started. I too hope they are not totally alone since they are on a base instead of a hotel. I can't imagine!
Did you read BelovedbyHim's blog about boot camp and quarantine? It sounds like they are actually in a room with two other SRs and they can keep their doors open and communicate with the three SRs across the hall. They just can't leave their rooms. That's still not fun, but sounds better to me than complete isolation. I was just counting the days, and I believe my son just has 4 or 5 days left in ROM. I'm just praying that he doesn't have to go back to ROM at the GL RTC. I guess that happens if they become Covid positive or are within the "ring of fire" (close contact with someone else Covid positive).
Good Morning Amy,
I was already in bed when you posted this, sorry. I have to scoot but wanted to just say, make sure you post on the main page of the BC Mom group. Be sure to scroll down most of the way until you find the comment wall. That is where we do all of our chatter, encouragement, and post our ups and downs with this emotional journey. If you haven't joined please do so.
You are correct, other than the "I'm Here" scripted call, there is a lot more long silence period than in the past. It is likely going to be 4 weeks or so before the Form letter arrives with information on where to send letters. And many people are not receiving phone calls until after Battle Stations right before PIR.
Here is some more information if you haven't read it yet -
Our son shipped from ST. Louis on 9/1. Details sound correct and hope this group is onboard at RTC now. Can't wait for them to get through their PFA and hopefully get form letters sent out!
If I figured the timeline correctly, I believe we might get the form letter around 10-8. Hopefully sooner!
