Anyone have a son or daughter that left for boot camp May 11, 2011?

My son left for boot camp yesterday.  Wow! What a bittersweet day!  I'm very proud of him, but he left our nest empty.  His brother is in AIT in the Army.  I hope to hear from other parents who might have someone there with him.

I understand.... I keep thiking about my son too. I can't wait to get our letter, so I can start sending him mail.  I have already started writing.  I will let you know as soon as I know what division he is in....we shall see if they are.
Sounds good. I started writing the day he left and will continue every day. I have learned from friends that it is what keeps them going. Can't receive too many letters I understand. Are you planning on going to BC graduation? I am hoping too.

Absolutely!  I hear he can only have 4 slots which is sad since he has other family members that would like to go.  Yes, letter are so very important to them.  My oldest son just finished bc in the Army...he loved getting mail.

My son also left for BC on 5-11.  This is our second go-round.  Our oldest has been in the Navy for just over 2 years.  He LOVES his career!  Our middle son saw his older brother's success and wanted the same for himself.  Any wonder, their father is retired Navy (That's hubby's BC picture on my profile, circa 1984).  We've gotten our call from our son and he sounded a little uneasy but, surprisingly, Happy!  This makes me so very happy for him! What I can say from our past experience is this: The Navy will take excellent care of your child.  Really.  Our oldest said that the RDC's were hard on them but with purpose.  Letters, Letters and more Letters!  You can send small pictures.  As always, keep them appropriate.  Our oldest wanted pictures of his car! LOL!
I have heard that about the Navy, and it is good to hear it again from you... that gives me some comfort.  My husband and oldest son are Army.  When my son called he sounded almost like a recording.....making sure he got everything in he was supposed to say.  He doesn't really like to read, so I will keep my letters short and simple..I am printing pictures on the paper that I am writing him on and writing little blurbs about the pics.  I am a little nervous that he won't write much....if he had a phone to text I'd be sure to know how things were going....letter...ummm i'm not to sure.
When did your son leave? Mine left on Tuesday the 10th.
Wednesday the 11th.
How do you figure out all of the acronyms, is there a place for a mom, new to the navy, to go?
I don't know for sure.  I think it is going to be confusing to me because I am used to Army acronyms.... I don't know maybe they are the same?  Sorry I wasn't any help.

Okay...so I got it!  If you look in the column to right, there is something called Navy speak...just type in the acronym and it will tell you what it means.

Hi, my husband just left today, He phoned me twice, once in the airport, we talked for 15 minutes and i was crying the whole time. And then after two hours, got the official phone call telling me he got to the Naval Station safely. I wonder if they are to be in the same division..

I know I can't wait to find out what division he is in and who is with him.  I'm an Army wife and we have been through multiple deployments.  It was many years agon (19) when my husband left for BC.  As a military wife I have learned that one of the best things we can do for our spouses is be strong, when we talk to them on the phone or when writing them letters.  There will be times that you break and cry, but they need to be reassured that you are okay, so they can stay focused on what they have to do. This is the Navy...different branch, but I am sure the same rule of thumb applies.  Glad that we can be a support to each other.  Have you started writing him already?
