Alice, I think my son might be. He is very discreet about his information, so I don't know his squadron number. I do know he is a NFO on a Growler on the Truman.

well momk, it is better to be discreet. there are a couple of squadrons that fly the Growler-is your son at NAS Whidbey?

Yes, he is stationed there when he is not on deployment.

Hey my son is in the VAQ 130. he is suppose to be on the flight deck launching the fighter jets but on the last short cruise he broke his hand so he will be in a cast for another 2 weeks. He is a E4 and this is his 1st deployment. This will be a long journey for all of us. What does your son or daughter do? Hope we can exchange info when we received them from our sailors.  Keep in touch

Janet

hey Janet-I never realized how many people are in a squadron. I guess your son is stationed at NAS Whidbey? My son is an O4. this is his second deployment so I know what to expect.the difference this time around is that he is married with a new baby!we will get through this together. just send him lots of e-mails and care packages and time does go by. keep in touch-go Zappers!

@Alice-Yes he is station their for 4years. I am glad that you son has been before so you can lead us newbie. I am working on a package now..Some of the item were bought for the Feb one that didn't leave. I will keep in touch. Thanks

Janet

My son is VAQ 130, he joined the Truman mid deployment, he is Intel and will be stationed at Whidbey after they come back.

Hi Mary-my son is  an LCDR in VAQ 130. it is different for the guys when they are part of the airwing-sometimes they don't feel attached to the ship because of different schedules and so on. My son is stationed at NAS Whidbey.this deployment is hard because it is so long, and my son left a new baby at home, who he misses and a lot of firsts that he misses. But this is the career they choose, so they buckle down and do their job. it is hard on families at home to carry on, but my yellow ribbon is tied up outside and will stay there till he gets home.will you meet the squadron when they fly into Whidbey this spring?

Hi Alice-

I don't know if my son will fly back with the squadron since he is Intel, I am new to all of this. How hard to leave a new baby. But yes as you said this is the career they chose and we need to be supportive. Where do you live? Have you been to Whidbey before? I live in Dallas and think August in Washington state sounds wonderful!!!

my husband and I just moved here 1 1/2 years ago from Long Island NY. we are living in Oak Harbor Washington now to be close to our son, daughter-in-law and baby grandson. if you visit,WA is beautiful. it never gets too hot or too cold, and here on Whidbey, we don't get as much rain as Seattle.when you come out to see your son, we can meet for coffee if you like.this is my son's second deployment, so if I can help at all, just send me a message.

My son is a Growler Pilot on the Truman. Glad to connect with all of you!

I am sure our sons know each other-son is NFO on Growler in VAQ 130
