OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I have 2 sons in Boot Camp.   After PIR they will go off to A-school; one in GL and one in Pensacola, FL.  My question is what to do about auto insurance?  We don't want to keep paying insurance needlessly,  but are unsure of when they will be driving again.  And, is there insurance available through the Navy when they do drive again?    How have y ou handled this?

USAA gives great rates for military people and their families. I utilize USAA because my father was an Army Dr. I had Allstate for 23 years. My bills went from 2 car ($400) down to $201 mthly. If they are driving military vehicles they are covered by the Navy.

Remember, the individuals driving a vehicle are covered under the person's who's car they are driving.
Geico will let you suspend the insurance when they are not driving and then start back up again when they are ready they were really good to work with and are very supportive of the military. you just have to give them the mileage on the car when they park it.
I think each state is different, but I would definitely take them off your policy, who knows when they will be behind a wheel again. My daughter bought a car where she is based, and has USAA for insurance, they say the rates are really good. She is not on my policy since she left for boot camp.
I would check with GEICO (Government Employee Insurance COmpany) They were formed years ago to provide insurance to military servicemen & women and their families. They also give discounts as the sailors Rank up. They are very helpful. Their # is 1800MILTARY. If that tells you anything,
I agree with Paula, definitely check with USAA. My son was originally with Progressive for $137/mo, but could go with USAA when he had his final contract while in DEP and that was only $72/month... he has a 94 BMW 318i just to give you an idea how much cheaper they really are. They were the absolute cheapest, with the same coverage he had with Progressive. They also understand deployments, etc... so having to suspend is very easy - we just did that since he's now at A school and will not have a car for quite some time and we're actually selling it now. Another good reason to go with USAA is that it's good in every state. When my son got to San Diego he discovered his insurance wasn't good in California (crazy, but true). His Chief recommended USAA and he's been very happy with it. Both he and his wife have it for their cars plus their renter's insurance.

We took my son off of our insurance, when he got to a place he could drive and have his car HE called USAA and signed up with them for his insurance, they do not penalize like most insurance companies do for a break in coverage..

I see that USAA and Geico are the two auto insurance companies to check out.  My question is this.  How do we get quotes from these companies before he leaves for BC?  The car in question is titled to my son, but is being driven by his fiancé.  She will continue to use the car while James is at Basic and A school.  We'd like to cancel James and his car from our insurance once he goes to basic, but it must be insured while he is gone.  It seems that we are unable to get a quote from USAA until he is in.....help.

You may have to remove him from the insurance and keep the car and his fiancée on since it is going to be driven and work out something so that s/he pays you the cost for continuing insurance if that is an issue. If it were only being driven occasionally, you could check into having it listed as a pleasure vehicle to reduce the cost. He should be able to sign up with USAA using his contract that indicates he has a ship date based on what others have said, but he is the one who has to call. My Sailor found that GEICO had the best rates for him.

USAA will allow him to join as DEP they also have several options.  We have used them for 15 years and the company is great.  

They are by far the cheapest.  They also do a non owner policy that is about 18 dollars a year (at least for my 18 year old boy) that will allow them to always have insurance so there is not lapse in coverage.  It is a good company and they will work with you.
