it really varies - I think the maximum time one can spend in DEP is a year but some ship quickly after their initial MEPS and others don't. My son did MEPS in early May and shipped in mid-Nov. so about 6 months in DEP. A friend (who went Marine) did MEPS early in his Senior year of high school and shipped the beginning of Sept so almost a year in DEP. But I've heard of people shipping within 6 weeks or so.

Thanks for yur feedback

It will depend on the job they'll be doing.  My son signed his contract in early January (2012) & shipped October 23rd (2012).

Bsnukem9m!! Thanks!!
My son went to MEPS on Nov 24th and he ships on March 8th, so for him it's 3 1/2 months.
Michiganredrose! Thanks. Wow that's shortest ive heard for shipout, 2015. What rate?
He is doing AECF, I thought it was short too but his dad is friends with the MEPS classifier so I don't know if that sped things up. I think they had a spot and his timing was right.
Great!!
Mine signed up in mid July and shipped out Dec 1.
Thanks kellis. That's shorter than most these days.
my daughter went to MEPS on November 5th leaves for boot camp March 21st.

The dates are of little value without knowing the rating. The manning levels for each rating determines the demand. When certain critical ratings have a projected manpower shortfall, Recruiters can earn awards for filling them in a hurry.
