My Son has signed up for the Navy and is scheduled to go to Boot Camp at the end of August. He scored a 99 on his ASVAB test and is going in as an intelligence specialist. He has 2.5 years of college under his belt and his recruiter is talking to him about finishing his degree after he goes in.
The problem is had a MIP (minor in possion of alcohol) citation back in 04 when he as a Freshman in college. He told his recruiter and the recruiter told him to leave it off the paperwork. It was dismissed later becaues he went through a diversion program through the University but it still shows up in his record as a dismissed citation. Somehow he passed his first background check but a more intensive one will start when he is in boot camp My son is now very upset because he feels this will keep him from being an IS. He says that once in boot camp they will notify him he has failed the background check for secret clearance and they will force him into something he doesn;t want to do. any advice? Can he go back to his recruiter and add this info to his file and ask for a waiver?
