Hello Everyone! We would like to start a Basket Project for our, “Meet and Greet” to benefit Sarge and his wife, who put on these Meet & Greets weekly as long as there is a PIR. Sarge and his wife purchase/make this food for you. His wife bakes brownies every week, it is a free meal; they pay for this out of their own pocket. This is just an idea to help supplement their out of pocket cost in which he puts right back into the next weeks PIR.
What is involved is that you simply volunteer to put together baskets or tote bags with items from their state, or bath items or any other goodie items. All these are brought in and placed on a table at the Meet & Greet with a container in front of each to collect the raffle ticket of the people who want to win it. The 2 part raffle tickets are sold. Attendees have an opportunity to place tickets in the container of their choice. Then drawings are made for the winner. I hear it is great fun!! Participation is strictly voluntary on your part! The total of the items in each basket should be like $25 - $35. You can pack the separate elements in their luggage, then look for a basket or container in Great Lakes, if you want. There is a Super Walmart right smack in the middle of the hotels in Waukegan/Gurnee (Springhill Suites, Holiday Inn Express, Courtyard Marriot, Residence Inn). Or the completed basket can be one of their 2 carry-ons. Remember, your purse counts as a carry-on. This info is just what I have gleaned from other groups who have done it.
Let me know if you wish to participate :).

I will be doing one for Florida :)

I thought I read somewhere that someone was bringing tickets for the raffle?? Is that just for the raffle or will there be enough for the baskets too? Let me know if not and I can pick some up :) Thx!

Lainey,

I believe my3luv said she would have a roll of raffle tickets donated from her VFW and these are to be used for this Basket Project.  The baskets are raffled off with the purchase of the raffle tickets.  You might want to message her with a Add as Friend to verify she will be able to get the tickets.  Click on her picture or name to go to her page.

Do you know how many baskets you have so far?  You can also pop in on the main page if you want to put out a reminder that this is going on up here~~

They can be used for both events. Are you planning to have two separate selling of tickets. One for the 50/50 and one for the baskets or combine the selling for both events. In other words, ticket holder have a chance either a basket or 50/50; or they can choose which tickets they want to buy. If you are planning to have them separate then you need separate cans to keep the tickets separate for the drawings. At my band boosters auctions we had several different theme baskets donated to raffle and we put cans in front each basket so the ticket holder can choose which basket they like to win.
Anyone doing one from California? So Cal? Maybe inland empire area? I can make one for SoCal or California but not sure how to bring the amazingness of CA with me on the plane lol. Also, I'm going to be there all day Thursday shopping to make my husband a banner, could I buy a basket or tote somewhere there cause I don't want to pack heavy :/
Lizziebear I'm actually doing a tote..since I'm from Florida I'm doing a Beach/Summer theme..this way I can pack most of the things and just fix up the tote when I get there...they also have a Walmart right there near the Sundance if you want to wait and get the basket there

Well if we do it together it may be a bit confusing...I thought we could set up the baskets on a table..with a bowl or something in front of each...you purchase your tickets and then put the ticket in the bowl pertaining to the basket in which you would like to try to win...but i see what your saying..they can either keep their ticket for the raffle or deposit it in the bowl for the basket drawing..ok..i got it..so yeah i guess we could do it together..what do you think?

What I would do is set a bowl in front of each of the baskets and one for the 50/50 raffle. Have the guests purchase the tickets and have them place their ticket(s) in the bowl(s) they like to have a chance to win, either or both the 50/50 and a basket(s).

That sounds good...I like it!!

LOL...That is AWESOME about the hotel stay...It's awesome how people come together!! Just give me chills!

And just to let everyone know you should not exceed $25-$35 for the contents that go in the baskets unless you get an awesome donation(s) like Miss Kimberlee..lol.

Hey Lizziebear- NavySis and I are doing one from California.  But the more the merrier right?

Hey Ladies...as my daughter and I was shopping for items for our "basket" today, I just wanted to put it out there that we should remember even if we can buy items there in Great Lakes the winner has to lug it home.  So we should probably try to make it travel friendly.  So we were thinking totes or collapsable "baskets" would work best.
