Hello.  My first time on this web site.  My son has been gone for 8 days now and it is so quiet at our house!  I really miss him alot.  Does it get better?  We got his box and we got his papers about his graduation ceremony.  Any suggestions on where to stay?

Since you know your SR’s PIR date, go to GROUPS: Listed By PIR Date - Pass In Review (Boot Camp Graduation) and click on the date and join the group for that to connect with others with loved ones who are training with your SR.  You could also join the group, New Moms Stop Here, and check out the Pages and Discussions there.  Two other groups you may wish to check out: Boot Camp Mom's and PIR Reference Information
Thank you very much for your help!  I will try these suggestions.
Hi Navymomjulie: It does get easier as the days/weeks go by. I'm not gone to lie, it is very hard.. I cried like everyday when I started to think of him. Keep the letters going when you get his address! This is one thing that keeps all of them motivated. The PIR was amazing... That's all I keep telling anybody..really unbelievable & try not to miss it!  My son is at A school right now studying to be a HM (Hospital Corpsman). He should be graduating from there in November... I miss him so much! We stayed in Chicago because my husband and I made it our mini-vacation. Go to Navy Pier with your son after PIR if you have time..something not to miss. Also just to let you know, you might not have much time with him after PIR. We only had him for about 4.5 hours - then he needed to be back at the base same day. His RDCs said to be back by a certain time - I think it was 7:pm.  - they also said the new "on time" is considered "late".. so he got back there by 6:pm.  He flew out the following day for A school in TX. Good Luck and stay busy, think about how proud you will be of him at PIR!!!! Laura
Laura, thank you for responding.  Your information is helpful as are all other comments so far.  My husband and I were planning to make a mini vacation of our sons PIR and had planned to be with him from right after PIR until that sunday night.  Is this not possible for us now?  How do I find out if he leaves for A school right away after PIR?  I need to make reservations at a hotel and am not sure for how long to make them.  Should I call his cheif?  Would he know?  And Navy Pier was at the top of our list of places to visit:)

Hang in there Julie, it does get better.  Your household is headed into a "new normal".  Normal will now be getting palpitations when you open the mailbox or hearing the phone ring, crying at weird times (like the grocery store when you see a box of his favorite cereal), reading that same letter over and over and over just to see his handwriting, being exhausted from NOT sleeping because your worried if he's getting enough rest.  It never ends really, the ups and downs will come but they be like a kiddy roller coaster instead of the giant terrifying one.

Then PIR comes and you see that "kid" you said goodbye to and look at that handsome man in uniform and those tears are joyful!!!   Congrats mom, you raised a guy who made a brave choice to serve his country..

Thank you!  I needed to hear these words.  39 days and counting!
It gets better.  After boot camp he will be able to phone you and text you when he is at A school.  My son is in Texas now and I hear from him several times a week.  Hang in there.  You will hear from him more often as boot camp wears on.   I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott.  They have a shuttle that takes you to the graduation for $3.00 per person each way.  It is nice because if you drive to the base, you will wait in line forever.  They search all the cars.  Be very proud of him, I cried when my son graduated, the ceremony is so awesome.
Thank you for the shuttle hint!   I have been toying with that idea and wasn't sure if we should or should not drive.  The shuttle sounds like a great idea to me!
I am staying at Courtyard. We will get there this Thursday. I cannot wait to see my SR/Sailor. The time was hard at first, but everyone was right - it gets better. Hang in there.

are things any better, my son leaves Nov 7, coming too fast

Weekends seem to be the worst for me.  Too quiet around here.  I was hoping for a letter today but no such luck yet.  Maybe next week.  I write to my son every day in hopes that he knows I am always thinking about him.  It keeps me sane!
How soon aftet they leave do you get thier address and how do.you get it
