OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hoppi has a good list, but for now:

Wallet with ID, SSN card, stamps, list of phone numbers and addresses (small, plain wallet!)
$20 cash
feminine hygiene needs, because stress can change cycles
a wallet picture
a pocket bible
a small religious medallion
modest make up for graduation (might come back), lipstick, blush and eye, no liner or foundation, natural shades
contacts and solution for graduation (may come back)
a comb (small, black)
an activated phone card she knows how to use
take a cell phone, it will come back, but she can call from the airport in case she doesn't get her "I'm here" call

I know I forgot something. Tell her to eat before she checks into the USO. Sleep on the plane, they keep them awake for 48 hours or so once they arrive.
My daughter graduated boot camp in May. Just send your daughter with a couple of prepaid phone cards, her driver's license, social security card, a small address book, a few books of stamps, and about $40. The navy will provide everything else she needs. Everything that she has on will come back in "the box". Also, send her with her cell phone so she can talk or text while she is on her way. Make sure the phone has insurance. It will come back in "the box". You should join the group "bootcamp moms". There you will meet up with other mom's, girlfriends and wives whose loved one leaves on the same day as yours. They will guide you through the roller coaster ride you are about to begin. Also, if she is on oral birth control, you can send her with her pills. They will take care of the refills and all medical needs. I think that is about all. Good luck to you and to her. I am sure everything will be just fine.
