Anyone have a sailor going to boot camp on March 7th? looking to chat with someone so we can share information. Trying to make plans for everything, but it seems so much is still unknown. I like to plan ahead, but don't think I will be able to. My son is leaving 3/7/2016 and I want to drive him to the airport, but I think he goes with his Navy recruiter. I feel I need to be at the airport for him and me.

I left info on groups and more on your My Page.

If his paperwork says his ship date is 03/07/2016, then he will spend the night before at a hotel and will swear in at MEPS on the 7th. No, you cannot drive him to the airport (or even to MEPS), he and the others who swore in that day will leave together. You will be able to meet him at the airport if he wants you to see him off there (some prefer to say their good byes at MEPS following the swearing in; find out how he wants to handle that).

BTW, you will have a recruit on 03/07/2016 after he swears in, but not a Sailor until the last week before PIR until 03/07/2016 he is a future Sailor.

Thanks for the information.

My son did tell me he is driving with his recruiter. He was already sworn in, unless he does that again?? We only live about 40 minutes from MEPs so he tells me I can drop him off at the recruiter's office in the morning before the airport and he is driving in with him. He has another meeting this Wednesday, maybe he will have more information for me.

Thanks again! I learn so much from this site.

He was sworn in the first time to be into DEP. The second one is the one that counts and he will then be Enlisted into the Navy and begin getting paid on that date.

Yes, sometimes the recruiters have loved ones drop off their future Sailors on the day before they ship and sometimes the recruiter picks them up. You can meet him that evening at his hotel and have dinner with him and spend a little time there if he wants to do that.

My husband leaves that day too. They get two swear ins, the second one is the real thing, the first one is if someone still wants to get out before the last swear in I was told. The day is getting so close and it makes me so nervous, but I know he is happy as this is his dream.

How often does boot camp start?  I am seeing several dates for end of Feb early March on here and am a little confused.  My son's sip date is March 2. He is leaving from VA.

momof2sailors, your recruit's boot camp will start when his division fills.

Recruits ship to the RTC Monday through Thursday of most weeks. They don't ship on federal holidays and they don't ship for about 2 weeks in December/January due to the Navy Recruiting Holiday Stand-down.

Check your My Page. I left info for you.
