Hello!

I don't post on here much, I just kind of look at posts here and there. My boyfriend is leaving for boot camp February 5th and I have a few questions regarding when he leaves.

My first question might be a little silly, but what size pictures should I send him? I initially thought normal size (4x6) but it occurred to me that that size might be too big...should I just send him wallets? Also, would sending pictures of just myself be okay? Or is that weird?

My other question is about how my boyfriend is acting right now... He is normally a really peppy guy. He doesn't let things get to him, he is never upset, and he is always in a good mood. Lately though, he hasn't been sleeping well and has been sorta irritable. I have a feeling it is because of his ship off date being so soon. I have tried to talk to him about it. Asking him if he's excited about leaving or if he is stressed out about it, but he doesn't really give me much of an answer. He won't talk about leaving at all. I'm pretty upset about him leaving, however I haven't mentioned it too much because I don't want to stress him out. So I guess my question is, should we talk about him leaving? If we do, what do we need to talk about? I feel like we need to...I just don't know what to say without putting more on him. I'm sorry if this all seems ridiculous and silly. I'm beginning to feel flustered with February coming so close and I just don't really know what to do.

Any other advice about long distance relationships, writing letters, the day he leaves, ect. would be much appreciated!

Thank you all so much!:)

Chaney

Put a wallet sized picture and a short note in his wallet. That way he will have them to look at in the days/weeks before he can receive mail.  (See Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....)  Although you can send regular pictures once you get his address, you may want to print pictures on computer paper and write your letter around them to save space.  Yes, it is fine to send him pictures of just you.  Send him things that you know will encourage him and remind him of your love and support. (See Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.)

Yes, future Sailors often get moody as the ship date gets closer.  Just let him know you support him and will be there for him and go from there.

Although you are not a mom, there is a lot of info and support for you in Boot Camp Moms (clickable link) and we accept everyone.  Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within that group and the other groups you are a member of.

Thank you for all the information!

I will try printing photos on paper and see how that works. And I wasn't sure if me sending photos of just me would be odd or not...I don't want to come across big headed. Other than photos of me, what other photos should I send?

I love the questionnaires! I might alter them a little bit. He isn't very talkative, so he might prefer those to actual writing.

I am glad to know the mood changes are normal. I suppose if he needs to talk about he will when he wants to.

Thank you again for the advice! It is really helping.

You are very welcome.  Send pictures of anything that you know will bring a smile to his face, but won't be a problem if others were to see it.
