OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Boot Camp Feb 3rd
My only daughter swore in yesterday in the DEP and will be leaving for Boot Camp February 3, 2016. She will be a Logistics Specialist. I am proud, excited, and nervous for her. We have no military background in our family so everything is all new to us. She took the ASVAB on 10/22 and completed MEPs yesterday. Everything is moving so fast. Any support that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

AMOm, Things really are moving fast for you. My daughter is graduating from A School next Friday and will be home on leave for 10 days. First time home in 8 months.
This was all new to us too. Let me tell you, its quite a ride. From the final swear in to getting the "I'm here" call (if you call it a call, only 20 seconds long) to receiving the "Box" then the "Form Letter" the calls and letters during BC (I got mine on Thursday from my daughter) to finally PIR. What an experience!! Proudest moment of my life. But I must say the "See you laters" at the airport was extremely hard!
Write your daughter everyday and put the letter in the mail each morning. Include inspirational quotes and let her know how proud you are of her and how much you love her. I never told her that I missed her because I didn't want her to be more homesick than she already was. The only day I didn't send a letter was Sunday. They love getting mail. It's what keeps them going.
My daughter loves the Navy. She is AC. What will your daughter's rating (job) be? Where will she go for A School? My daughter went to Pensacola and will be going to Jacksonville, FL for 3 years. She will be getting more certifications while she is there.
There is a lot of "Sit and Wait" so be prepared.

My oldest daughter swore into the DEP last Monday, but I have until August 2, 2016 to prepare! I already miss her and she isn't even gone! Having this website has already helped me so much! I now know what to expect and that all my feelings are totally normal! My daughter is going to be DC so will stay at GL for her A school after PIR.

My daughter's rating is LS (Logistics Specialist). The recruiter is coming over tomorrow to do his at home visit. He said the meeting would take 2 hours. WOW! I am wondering what he will discuss for 2 hours. I am also thankful for this site as I have a great understanding of how the process is going to go. I love to be prepared mentally. Thanks for the feedback.

Oh the places she'll go! Be ready for a big emotional roller coaster. The final swear in is such a proud moment followed be the utter despair of sending them off to boot. You have come to the right place for help. As soon as your SR (seaman recruit) gets to boot camp she will call you. That call will last 30 seconds. Stick to glad you made it. We love you, we are so proud of you and you can do this! Then be ready for mostly telephone silence for the next 10 days to two weeks while the Navy gets hold of your daughter and teaches her the Navy way. This will be the hardest time for the whole family. Be ready for the second emotional kick that comes in the form of the kid in a box which will most assuredly reduce you to a puddle of tears, Get used to it-- there will be more moments like these. About a week to two weeks you will get a form letter confirming that your daughter is in fact in the Navy now aboard the training command. It will also tell you what ship and division she is in and when the PIR (graduation) is and another very important piece of information-- her new mailing address. As soon as you find out her ship and division and PIR date come back here and join a group just for your PIR and Division. Remember misery loves company and you are going to need to experience this with other parents. Remember no last names and no clearly identifying information on N4M. RDCs troll this site and they can make it hard on your SR if they figure out that you are her mom. After you get acquainted on here move the more specific discussions to a private Facebook group. Start writing as soon as you get it. It will probably be at least another week before you get anything in the mail. Be ready for another puddle of tears when that day comes and try not to stain the letter with tears so the rest of the family can read it too. That first letter will be filled with gratitude from your child for supporting her and raising her to just about anything else she can think of to thank you for. After three weeks in boot, she now appreciates her home in a way that neither of you thought was possible. Be creative with your letters. We sent our son a newsletter called News from the Home Port. We let different family members write a column about family and community news. Be sure to include pictures. Invite her friends to post on her social media page and then print her news feed and send it to her. Remind everyone to keep it clean. The RDCs can and will read her mail. More letters and a very few actual phone calls and ahe will get to hell week which is a make or break time followed by the ultimate test Battlestations which happens on a life size Arleigh Burke class destroyer simulator. Then you get the best call of all. Mom I made it! I am a United States Sailor! Then come PIR. You should move heaven and earth to be at PIR start saving for the trip now. PIR is a sight to behold. You will absolutely burst with pride. And then you get the best hug ever. And you will get to meet the other navy moms you have been suffering along side of and those are friendships that will last a lifetime! This will be the toughest and most rewarding times for you and your SR. It is so worth it though. God Bless you and keep you! Mdubtxmom. Ship 9 Div 69 PIR 2/11/11

Hello AMOm! I was so excited to see your post. My son also ships out to boot on Feb 3. We have been in the process since July which seems like ages to me. I'm feeling all of those same emotions for my son and am thrilled about this new direction in his life. His rating is AV (Aviation Electronic, Electrical Computer Systems Technicians) I hope we can get to know each other over the next few months and meet at PIR which I'm expecting will be April 1. Where will your daughter be going for A school? Tim will be in Pensacola.

Hi Julie!Yes I was just counting the 9 weeks to PIR as April 1. That would work out great because it is spring break here and my younger son would not miss school. I am so excited. We just started the journey 10/22 with her taking the ASVAB so things are moving fast. Her rating is LS and her A school will be in Meridian, MS. I joined the group DEP February. Yes let's stay in touch.
