My son left for bootcamp on Wednesday and I've been crying off and on ever since.  I feel so lost not beling able to call him, FB him or contact hm in any way.  I never thought it would be this difficult.  I'm really struggling. I'm not worried about his safety, just feel so disconnected, like he's gone forever.  He is my firstborn too, maybe that's it?   I don't know, but he reached this milestone that I feel like I wasn't prepared for.  Anyone else feel like that?

My son does not leave until Aug. 7th and I feel like that already. He is my only child so I can't imagine what it is going to be like. Crying just thinking about it. Where did our babies go?

I can't imagine what it is like if it is your only child BUT today is my birthday and it's just me and the cats.  When I woke up today I said to myself I am not going to be sad today.  My children are doing exactly what they want to do with their lives and that makes me happy and proud.  I have done my job well as a mom.  Do I wish, for me, that he hadn't listed, sure.  When I got his first letter from boot camp it came across loud and clear that he was happy and when the kids are happy, the moms are happy.  You are going to do great.  I would suggest doing a bunch of activities with your son before you leave and take lots of pictures.  When we go up to PIR in March, I am bringing him a photo album of things we did before he left.  Take care of yourself.

What a great idea Becky!  (the photo album).  Awesome comment too!

Happy Birthday!!!! (0:  Do something WONDERFUL for yourself!!

Thanks for the birthday wish.  My sister and her son are taking me out for dinner!  Her son is in eighth grade and he is a lot of fun to be around so I can get a "kid" fix today by being with my nephew.  I've been housecleaning all day because for the last month my son was at home, housecleaning was on the list of things to do but not at the top.  Only the necessities got done.  So yesterday and today I tackled the house and got a handle on getting the last of the Christmas items put away and got some serious housecleaning done.  It's made me feel better just having that done.  I've determined I'm going to start going to the library more often too.  I had quit doing that over the last several years because I was so busy running around with the kids and I love reading so, hello library.  Thanks again for your well wishes.  Take care.

Well, hope you have a wonderful supper!!  I am so excited, only 7.5 weeks to go till Chicago!!!! (0:

Hi Marlene, I couldn't help relating to everything you wrote. It will get better. I know some moms couldn't open the box that was sent back, but I tore in to ours hoping that my son had the chance to write a note or something, of course there wasn't and it made it seem like he was gone forever. For three weeks we wondered how he was doing and how he was getting along. His first phone call came before his letters and I wish I could have recorded it! He was so much changed and though tired, sounded so much more mature and focused. His letters were warm and filled with what he was accomplishing. Though it was hard to drive away that day, we gave the Navy our boy and will be getting back a Man. I know it was the right thing to do, to let him go. Believe me every mom has gone through what you are and only navy moms/dads understand. It's ok to cry, bawl, wonder if you did the right thing. I can assure you, you did. I will be so proud to see him at his PIR, and you will be too!

Please forgive me as I am SO new to "Forums," so I am sure I am not "replying" or adding to the discussion properly, but I have a question: My daughter left for Boot Camp on Jan. 24th, and so right now we are going into week 3.  Although I received our "Kid in the Box," I have not recieved another packet from the Navy with parent info. about PIR, etc.??????  I thought I had read on here somewhere about that, and now I am getting worried)0:

Any thoughts or advice???????

Thank you so much!!

Our son left on Jan 24th also.  We received the PIR package last week.  I was surprised we got our packet so soon.  We were told three weeks so your packet might be coming this week.  Our son had written us a letter on the packet also so that was really good to hear from him.  Your packet is probably on the way and you'll get it this week.  The packet contains your password for entry to PIR, the PIR date for your sailor (if nothing comes up) and a lot of other useful information.  Call your daughters recruiter if you don't get the packet by Friday and let them know you haven't received your packet.

Hi Becky(0:

Thank you so much for the advice - I will take any advice I can get!!!!
