My son left for bootcamp on Wednesday and I've been crying off and on ever since.  I feel so lost not beling able to call him, FB him or contact hm in any way.  I never thought it would be this difficult.  I'm really struggling. I'm not worried about his safety, just feel so disconnected, like he's gone forever.  He is my firstborn too, maybe that's it?   I don't know, but he reached this milestone that I feel like I wasn't prepared for.  Anyone else feel like that?

Hi NavyDoodle, my daughter too had left on the 24th.... still no form letter either.  I was hoping for today, it didn't come.  I'm pretty sure my daughters PIR is 3/16.  I got her "unoffically" address from her recruiter.  Her division is 096 and Ship #3.......  Have you tried the recruiter yet??    If I don't see a letter by the end of this week, I am going to call ours.....

Good Luck!

Hi Robin(0:

My daughter is DIV 096 and Ship #3 also!!(0:  I guess I feel a little bit better that it's not just my packet that hasn't arrived)0:

So, you think PIR is Mar. 16th???  I am getting really nervous because I know I have to start making some kind of travel arrangements! )0:

I did call her recriter and got like you called it - her "unofficial" address.

Also - my Mom is telling me that she read on a Navy website somewhere that the recruits are "punished" with 50 extra push ups for every letter they receive from home!!!)0:  Do you know of any truth to this, because I have been writing my daughter religiously EVERY day since she has been gone)0:  I will be devastated if I am causing her ANY extra grief at all!!  Her recruiter NEVER said anything about that)0:

They are never punished for mail.... well, maybe everyone gets to do a few extra pushups for musical cards.  It doesn't hurt them (we did jumping jacks if we didn't work as a team).  Keep writing.

Thank you Anti M.!!!  I feel so much better now, I was really struggling with that one, because I didn't want her to get punished, but I also didn't want her NOT getting any letters from me and thinking that I didn't care)0:  I just didn't know what to do!

Hey NavyDoodle!

I do think it's that date.. but will feel better when the form letter arrives.  If it doesn't come by friday, I am calling the recruiter again ;)

I've read everywhere that letters are what keep our SR going...... I will continue to send many.  My boys had made ones with glitter.. those, I didn't send :)    I felt that if the glitter got on the bunks/floor... THAT would cause more punishment LOL... so just letters.   Keep writing... her recruiters and the other navy personnel in that office said to write often!  :)   I am so glad to meet another mom in Div 096 Ship 03!!!   We've made our reservation already at the Marriott...... as soon as the form letter arrives, I will be reserving a rental car to drive up!  Can't wait!  And.... so wonderful to meet you!

Hi Navy Doodle and Robin,    My name is Barbara and i to have my son in law in the same division. How did you know what hotel to make reservations and what state are you coming from. My daughter and i are from brooklyn ny and where trying to deceide to fly or drive.  Its great that we connect so we can meet other parents as us in  the same group. Please keep in touch

Hi Barbara and Robin(0:

I have not made ANY reservations as of yet - I have been looking around on here for the information, but, I am a little overwhelmed and don't even know where to start)0:  So Robin, you think the Marriott is a good place?

I live in Elko, NV., but will be flying from Salt Lake City - anybody, please help me on where to get started???!!

Thank you!

NavyDoodle & other newbies, please take a few minutes and review previously posted comments. Please join the PIR Reference Information Group - lots of good tips for organizing your trip.

One of the tricks I use to keep track of good links to discussions or groups is to post a comment on my own personal page.  On above menubar, click MY PAGE. Under your own comment wall, you can post the link to Survival Guide, Blog on the Form letter.  IF you join the PIR Reference Info Group, you don't have to include this link in the comment because this group and any group you belong to will be listed under "groups" (left column under you photo).

I feel the same exact way.  My daughter left Wednesday and I feel empty.  I am proud of her but have never gone without talking to her everyday.  When can she write to me?
