My son left for bootcamp on Wednesday and I've been crying off and on ever since. I feel so lost not beling able to call him, FB him or contact hm in any way. I never thought it would be this difficult. I'm really struggling. I'm not worried about his safety, just feel so disconnected, like he's gone forever. He is my firstborn too, maybe that's it? I don't know, but he reached this milestone that I feel like I wasn't prepared for. Anyone else feel like that?

You don't know what you are talking about. Just wait until you have been on this site for a few months and you know more about what is going on than your sailor. They'll make comments like, "Mom, why don't you ask those other moms on Navy For Moms when I will .... ", "What does Navy For Moms say about this ......."
Don't laugh. I am serious. My sailor had to warn me NOT to call anyone right up the chain of command if he doesn't contact me (out on deployment, etc). Yip, I am one of those moms who will leave no stone unturned if I want to contact my boy - except when he threatens to disown me. Imagine, his own mother.
To all newbies, my sailor's commitment will end in less than 70 days. Your journey is just beginning. Enjoy the ride. BQB
All us newbies are anxiously awaiting to know whats going on with our recruits. Glad to hear we aren't always in the dark!
I dont know why your son called so early. But I am glad for you. From the little bit I am learning each day on this site is that if you recruit got to make a call unexpectedly your recruit did something good and that was a reward his Officers choose to give your recruit. God Speed.!!!!!!!
My son is leaving in a month Im going to be the same. But I know is going to be better. Just try to keep busy and go outside and do something for you. As soon you know something about him you going to feel much better. I hope my words will help me too .!
Definitely this is going to help me but for now i have to stop reading. My son didnt left yet and just reading this I can stop crying ! I hope you all get better soon so it will be a big help for me in a month .! I see know this is a stage is lfe that is not easy for anybody.

mine left Monday and called on tuesday at 238 in the morning. i have to start writing to him not sure what to say >>>>>>
Marlene,
Its going to be a hard three or four weeks Im not going to lie to you, but it will be the best thing for your son!
My oldest graduated him PIR in August of last year. He is now aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln and on his first deployment.
Its been a learning experience yet again, but Navy for moms has been a blessing for me and Ive met some wonderful women.
My suggestion is you go ahead and start writing him, daily if possible, the guys need to know they have someone back home who supports them. He will hate it at first and then begin loving it!
You will see through his letters him transforming into a sailor!
Let me know if I can do anything for you,
my number is 863-934-9937 and my email is countrywoods@hotmail.com.
I have been reading all of your comments and this has made me feel so much better. I am glad we can get so much insight from all the mom's that are going through or have gone through this. It really does help.
Marlene I am so glad you were able to hear from your son, I hope mine will be able to call soon. But I wont get my hopes up for at least another week or 2. I am sure that just hearing his voice made you feel so much better.
I will start writing letters and get them ready to mail so he will be able to get one as often as possible.
I do! My youngest daughter must be in the same recruit class. I feel so much "anxiety" about it! I am used to my kids texting or calling multiple times per week. This is so hard!! But, I am so proud!
My son has always been a call or a text away from me. I could just say love you have a good day or something. This has really been hard.
My father was in the Army for 28 years, I was so used to traveling and the long distances between us when he went TDY, so I never imagined that I would have such a hard time with this.
It is hard to talk to my friends because they just say oh Melissa come on he is almost 19 and he needs to get out and see the world for himself and start his life. But their kids are still home.
When did your daughter leave?
She left Wednesday also. I found out she's on Ship 2, the USS Ruben James. It is really hard to talk to people who have not had family-military experience. Fortunately I work near an active AF base, so many of my coworkers are current and retired military.
I am with you on the dis-connect end. I feel just "out of the loop". We got the 30 second "Mom, I've landed." call and that's it. I am writing her this weekend.
I am in Arizona, where are you?
I am in Florida, actually not to far from MacDill AFB, my boss and a couple other people in the office were prior military so it is easy to talk to them. My mom being a military wife and my dad of course help to talk to them as well. How did you find out what ship she was on?
