My son recently signed a contract to enlist in the DEP program. When we met with the recruiter several days later, it was brought up that he should be at a higher starting payscale since he did ROTC in high school. The recruiter said he will see about getting this changed, and in a phone call with my son, said everything was taken care of & he faxed the requred info. We dont have anything new in writing though. Should he resign a whole new contract, if this is possible? Should he keep bugging the recruiter for updated paperwork?

Remember, if it's not in writing, it's not going to happen. Sounds like you already know that so good for you.

Your son holds all the gold right now. Clearly since he did ROTC in high school, he's a very attractive candidate for the Navy and they are certainly looking for well qualified individuals.

IMO, the best way to proceed is simply stay on the recruiter and and request that the higher paygrade be provided in writing with all of the appropriate signatures. If the recruiter won't do that, ask for the address of the recruiters commanding officer and write a letter to that office detailing your concern. (Just asking the recruiter for the Commanding Officers address may be enough to get him to move on the issue.)

If THAT doesn't work, then I suggest you simply inform the recruiter that your son intends to follow the procedures and remove himself from the DEP program. (It is the policy of the military to allow one to leave the DEP program. Google it and you will find the procedures and valid reasons.) That in and of itself might be enough to get action also.

Finally, if none of the above works, follow up and get out of DEP. Don't allow the Navy to "screw" your son out of what he is entitled to. Certainly not before he enlists. They'll do enough of that after he's in. Remember, you hold all the cards now, you hold NONE the day he leaves for bootcamp.
The one that matters is the contract signed at MEPS. Keep on it, but it is the holidays and even the pencil pusheers take leave.
he signed the contract at meps. but i will have my son talk to his recruiter again (maybe with a little pressure) to get everything in writing. Thanks for all your help!
There is this group http://www.navyformoms.com/group/qawitharecruiter that would be a good place to ask your question.
My daughter did JROTC in high school and she was a depper and she went in as an E3 and got paid as in E3. But we made sure everything was in writing. ( helps when your a navy brat )

She was lucky she had a great recruiter and he did everything.
all she had to do was prof read her contract and sign.
