HI! My husband leaves for boot March 26th.  He is in the SECF program and will be going to A school in Groton CT. I have heard different answers from recruiters, and other friends about wether the navy will pay to move me and my baby to be with him while he is in A school. I heard school has to be over 12 months, I heard 22 weeks, 33 weeks. etc. His schooling I believe is about 11 months long and I want to know since its so long and so far away (im in california) if the navy will pay for us to move there?? I know I can move there myself out of pocket and they will provide BAH but im just wondering if they will move me....any insight/advice or help will be SUPER appreciated!!! Thank yoU!!

That school is long enough to qualify for a paid move.  He must start on the paperwork immediately upon arrival at Groton.  He will need to get permission to live with you, and set you up for housing/BAH.   It cannot be set up until he graduates from boot camp.

Right now you should prep for a move anyway, start getting rid of excess stuff, toss, sell and donate like mad.  You will have to drive your vehicle cross country if you have one, the Navy doesn't move cars.

Thank you for your help! I also was wondering is it the program itself that qualifies to the paid move, OR which job he ends up with in the SECF program? I guess there are 3 different jobs in that field; STS;FT and ET. All these jobs range from 14weeks to 33 weeks...

Also Im planning on driving to his graduation from boot in chicago then driving the rest of the way to groton CT and im wondering if he will be able to live with me right away or how long will it take for him to live with me and my child? Thanks for your help!

He will also go through a preliminary training (I think).  I know the AECF program is similar and they have a nine week course before A school.  Make sure whoever stays behind with your stuff has a power of attorney in order to sign for the packout.  It gets complicated, and I know less about Groton than other school commands.   Have you found the SECF group here yet?  There are other wives on there who would know more.

He cannot drive with you from Glakes to his A school, he must use the transportation the Navy arranges. No, he cannot live with you right away.  He must earn his phase two liberty privileges; during phase one, they cannot stay out past curfew, even on weekends.  He must get permission to live with you, that can take about four weeks or more.
