Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

care package

I need help !!!

my son is on an aircraft carrier and my coworkers would like to send a cookie care package.  Is this a good idea?  Any packaging advice?  I really don't know who else to ask so thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Barb !  His ship is currently deployed.  Packages seem to have been taking about a month however his Halloween box got there is about 8 days !!

Yes, the cookies would be homemade.  I was trying to think of things that may last longer, granola's?? oatmeal??  my biggest worry is that they will be expired by the time they get there.

Cookies hold up really well for a very long time.   I bake cookies for my husband to take on his truck, and a semi sure beats things up!  I do use more whole wheat and oatmeal because they don't crumble as easily.  But honestly, at sea, the guys will eat them even if they're crumbs!

When I send care packages to my nephew when he's deployed, I add fancy hot cocoa packets, and individually wrapped teas and herbal teas, and the sports drink powder packets.

Homemade cookies wrap 2 or 3 in saran wrap place 2 or 3 packs of cookies in zip lock bag squeeze all air out put in bag with candy or popped popcorn for packing materials or if you are sending new t shirts their package can help cushion too. You might think about the individual drink mixes lemonade fruit punch and add them to your box. Just remember they will share their box so put in plenty .

Hi Judy

Thank you so much for your tips.  My biggest worry is that they will go bad before they get there.  This whole thing was my bosses idea, we are "baking it forward...."  I have worked there for 14 years so they have seen my kids grow up, its' almost like he is one of their own kids !!  lol

my dil has even put the cookies in disposal plastic containers like the zip lock ones at wal mart then the guys have used them for storing small items in their locker

When i use to send my son his carepackages I would freeze the cookies before sending them,  this helpd them stay fresher longer.  You can also put a slice of bread in with them.
