For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

It does happen at times that a recruit is able to change ratings or fields at BC, but generally the rating or field he shipped with is the rating or field he will come out of BC with. In order to change ratings in BC, another recruit with a contract for the rating he desires would have to become ineligible for the rating (DQ'd for some reason or sent to SEPS) or a future Sailor with a contract for that rating would have had to have been unable to ship for some reason and the contract becomes available. He can ask and possibly have to submit an Enlisted Personnel Action Request. Just as at MEPS, others may be wanting the same contract and he has to be eligible for it. If his contract changes, then the his contract will be open for another recruit.
What is his current rating (job/specialty) or field?

Usually not by choice. If an SR loses eligibility for the rating contracted for, then he will be re-rated into what the Navy needs, or something in the PACT program. There may be a few choices, but these will not be the most desirable choices for the most part. The slot opened by the ineligible SR will probably not be filled by someone already in boot camp, far more likely it will be passed to those waiting in DEP.
Choose your rate, choose your fate. Never ship with a job you do not want on the slim hope of a change.
