Does anyone know of any Cheap plane flights from Atsugi Japan to the USA? My daughter has leave but tickets from Tokyo Japan to Denver Colorado are around $1400.00!

Tell her to go to ITT on base and see if they can help her out...but sorry tickets are costly.

That's actually pretty normal.

Has she looked into the Patriot Express? It's space A, but they have several flights a week out of Japan to the States, and if she can get eml leave (you can do that once every 6 months - her command will know how to go about having her leave reflect that). It changes her category for trying to get on the plane and, especially if she's traveling alone, improves her chances of making it.

If she doesn't make the flight, or if she makes the flight out but not the flight back (she has to sign up for that separately, they don't do "round trip") then she would have to pay commercial - but - you can sometimes get cheap last minute "fill the seats" sorts of tickets.

Last year about this time, my husband and I flew from Japan on the PE, then had to fly back commercial. Getting last minute tickets through the airline directly, and we paid about $800 each one way. Not cheap, but still, better than $1400....

Thank you everyone, The problem she has is she is out at sea till Thanksgiving, And there internet is very slow. so once shes back on land she only has a week till she is on leave.

She can't sign up for the PE until she's on leave status anyway, so she can try that when she gets back. Plus, sometimes the last minute ticket sales can help.

The only real silver lining though is at least the COLA can help offset the tickets. (COLA is cost of living allowance, which is REALLY high for Japan - an E-3 in Atsugi, with no dependents, gets about $550 a month extra just in COLA, tax free, above and beyond her paycheck, so that helps some with the ticket prices...)

Good luck - I hope she finds some relatively cheap tickets!

There is an issue with using Space "A" ...as if she gets somewhere than can end up stranded, than has to pay an even higher price to get either home or back to base.  As if she is late getting back from leave..she will be in BIG trouble.

Recommend you just buy her the ticket (if you can afford it) and have her pay you back.
