My son left for boot camp on 11/18/14 and I'm an emotional mess!! I see that the Navy is allowing recruits to spend Thanksgiving dinner with their families. Does anyone know if their doing the same for Christmas?

Thank you willsmom for your kind words. I am so grateful that I found this site because I know it will help me get through this. It already has. Whenever I get weepy I sign on and it really does help me. The best of luck to you and your son too.
Some of the divisions are eligible for the Adopt a Sailor program. You have to fill out a form to check them out for the day, and they must stay within 50 miles.
The families who got to participate for Thanksgiving had to have the form in by October 31st. I would ask directly on the FB page for information on when they open the program, and who is eligible to participate. (I cannot find it easily online, sorry).

Thank you for the info. It was very helpful!
Everything you are feeling is normal. I was a mess too and cried often. If anyone asked about him, I would tear up. Your son will be fine. The first few weeks are rough. Start writing him every day so when you get his address in about a week or so, you can mail them out. They love and need to get mail. My son graduates on the 26th. I am beyond proud and so excited to see him in his dress blues and hug him tight. Things will get better. My son also called 4 times already and I'm expecting the "I'm a sailor" call tomorrow. I received letters from him every Thursday once they are allowed to write. Good luck to you and your son.
