OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My fiance is in class 14-10. I got to talk to him for about 5 minutes last night and he's already lost his voice! They have to yell everything at the top of their lungs! I'm in the Navy also and I'm so used to being the one who leaves! I'm the one who has to tell everyone else not to worry, so its really weird being on the other side of it!

Sue, this timeline notion is a good idea. My LO was in 13-10 and I had April 16 set in my mind for grad. But he rolled and has to wait to class up with 14-10, so now I'm going to take it one week at a time.
Found this reading through the 13-10 discussion...

Another thing, when my LO called the first weekend, I asked him for a callback number and we hung up and I called him right back and he answered the phone. This is to not chew up a bunch of minutes on the phone cards fyi. Sometimes payphones charge multiple minutes in surcharges.

If it works, it's a great idea!!!!
Good idea. I will remember this for future use when phone calls hopefully become regular! Time goes by quickly in hindsight! Today is our 5 year anniversary and if its true about meeting their DI's today, what an anniversary for him!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!! This will definitely be a memorable one!

I read through the 13-10 posts to get a glimpse into the future since we're only 2 weeks behind them. People have received phone calls (short ones), emails and letters, so our day is coming SOON!!!!
Has anyone started any hobbies or have any goals to help pass the time?

I've been hitting the gym pretty hard in the mornings. My goal is to drop 13 pounds before graduation. 11 weeks to go!!!
I'm Helene, and I'm Chris' mom..GatorJLS is my future daughter-in-law! So glad to have found this group..these are the wives and fiancees an girlfriends and moms of the peopl my son is spending time with (lots of time, and up close and personal!) so it is very nice to meet all of you!
Hi Helene, welcome to the group! It really is helpful having other people to share this experience with.
I'm Ellen. My son, James, is in 14-10 C and I've been so curious about what he is going through. His girlfriend called me last night and told me about this website. Thank You to all who have posted - it's been great to read through all of your posts - and very helpful to a newby. I just got my first letter and it was like gold to me. Of course, I've been writing since I got his address.

Again thanks to all of you.
Hi guys I hope I'm not jinxing my LO by joining this group now. She is currently in H class and hopes to class up with 14-10 when they reach week 3. She is a NUKE SWO. I hope that you guys are hanging in there, this week can be really rough. Time does start to pass faster as the weeks move on. Although, after two months we still have 12 weeks left. haha. One thing I learned is to try to take everything in stride. And a lot of the time, that is very difficult but it can be done!!!! :)
I'm always excited about the Nukes! My LO was an enlisted Nuke, but he will be a regular SWO not a nuke SWO. I'm still a nuke and on my way to teach at Nuke school is SC. I will be teaching on the A-school side of the building so I won't get to teach your LO! I will keep a look out for her though!
I always wondered why people used somewhat random pics for their profiles... Apparently DI's and Candio's will browse through this site looking for info to use to harass our LO's. Not cool, but it's the military! Be careful with the information you put on this site since it's open to everyone! For those of you who don't know, we have a facebook group for this class. In order to protect our LO's, all members have to be approved prior to accessing the page. Once your emails, calls and letters start rolling in, if you have personal info that you'd like to share I would suggest the fb site, not this one! This site (N4M) is great for general/support info. If you would like to join the fb group or have family/friends that would like to join, PM me or discoe. Once we verify that you have a LO in this class you will be accepted. I'm sure none of us want our LO's to endure anymore hardship than they already have to!
You couldn't have worded that any better! Too many classes in the past have had problems with too much information on this site.
