I do realize there are many variables when it comes to the cost of attending my son's graduation (?, is "graduation" the correct lingo) but can I get help from those more experienced.

This is my first time with anything military.  My son leaves in March and attending will be a must.  The catch is I also have twin 16 year old daughters.....anyone with teenage girls know they are not cheap... now times that by 2.  So I want to start saving so I know making the trip to Great Lakes will not be a problem.  I have used mapquest and I know it is about a 9 hour drive to Chicago.  Gas....well who knows what will happen with the prices by the time May is here.  Approximately what is the cost of a hotel room?  If he can do things with the family over the weekend, what is there to do and what is the cost?  Considering we do not know when the next time we may see our son, I want to enjoy our time together.

Any advise is appreciated!!

Hi..  my daughter will be headed to A school in San Antonio.   Does this mean she will be leaving the next morning?  I am not sure how long to book our room or when to fly out.  Any help would be greatly appreciated :)  I am still waiting on the form letter but want to have all my ducks in a row and get the tickets as cheap as possible.  :)

Yes, your Sailor will most likely fly out the day after PIR. Plan to leave late Saturday or on Sunday. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend. (That info is also on your My Page.)

We can let you know what happened with our kids, but you won't really know until you see your daughter on the morning of PIR. (Unless she gets word and can call the day before PIR). That is when they are told when they are leaving. My daughter got on a bus at 3:00 AM sat. Morning. Actually flew to San Antonio at 3:00 pm. We met her at airport about 5 am to give her cell phone and lap top and spent some time visiting.

We cancelled our room for Sat. Night on Friday afternoon. Stayed at NavyLodge, they were great at last minute cancellation.
