The job choices given to my granddaughter are limited to culinary specialist ,mechanic jobs or going undesignated. The recruiter is trying to discourage her from picking the CS job. Any hint why? I donot want her going PACT.
She also qualified for YN and PS but the recruiter says job openings are very hard to get and may not be available before her DEP date comes up.
CS's do work crazy hours, but all cooks do. I would straight up ask the recruiter why he is trying to discourge her from going CS. There is nothing wrong with it.
What does your daughter want to do? That is the more important thing to worry about.
She wants to work IS,IT but her scores wont allow. She would be happy with a YN or PS admin job but the recruiter says they are hard to get and may not be available before her DEP date. Like I said I do not want her going undesignated and chipping paint for two or four years.

haha! I am the career counslor for all the "A" Schools in Great Lakes. CS used to be up here until about a year ago. I used to love to go over to the school...the things they learned WOW! Had Master Chef's come in and train those young Sailors. The food was GREAT!!!!! CS really is the heart of a ship...with out good food no one is happy. Good food = happier Sailors
As far as being undes and chipping paint for 2 -4 years that is false. ALL jr Sailors do grunt work for the first year or so of their career. So even if your daughter gets CS she is going to be doing the grunt work...and yes even painting as the CS's rooms need to be painted and who ever works in that spaces takes care of everything in that space. Soo guess who does it??? Yep the jr Sailors do.

I do not know who to believe concerning the PACT designation. Input fron this websites forum tells horror stories of how hard it is to get a specific job once you are in PACT (ie... two to three years doing grunt work and no guarantee of going to an A school unless you study hard and get recommendations). That is the reason I would like for her to get a contracted job.
It sounds like the CS job is something she might like. I will tell the recruiter if a CS, YN or PS comes up to keep her in mind.
