Hey Julie, Yeah, I was told the same thing.. We dont want them to stand out in any way..Keep it on the low down,,:)

Maybe just tell them Happy Birthday in a letter. I was told keep it white paper and white envelopes..So, thats what I'm doing..Damn, I like the cards that sing...Ha-Ha!!

My thought is have a cake and candles at home and send pics of his friends eating it... A huge sign in the back ground saying Happy birthday..

We have to be creative..

But, I miss my son..today was a hard day for me.. I cried watching a movie, I cried driving down the street, I cried about everything..I just miss him...

But, I will stand strong and I will be tough..

And with all of you , it will be easier....

Have a very nice  evening....

Kelly

Hey,

My son left 3/29/2011 for boot camp. He was shipped out of Sacramento. So yes I am in the exact same situation as you are. Feeling pretty strange today. Packed up all his clothes (of course he was kind enough to leave me a whole basket of dirty laundry haha) and personal stuff today. Lots of emotions going on right now. But the main thing is I am very very proud :) Good luck!

My fiancé left 3/28 as well. I got a 24 second phone call saying I'd get his address and another phone call in two weeks. I'm having a very hard time, but I can't wait until we can keep in touch easily..It's hard planning a wedding with no input from the groom.

We put together a survival guide. Please go to this group and click on the first Discussion which contains videos, power presentations, tips for navigating this site and links to other important sites for information.

It should be the 20th of May, I just found out.
Hi Angela, my son left the same day from Kansas City, I got my phone call it was very short. I can't wait to get his address. This is really hard...
My son left for boot camp on the same day as your daughter. You can always keep in touch with me and we will definitely compare notes!  He is my only child and the only one in our family line to go into the military so I'm completely in the dark!  I miss him soooooo much and am finding it hard to know what to do with my single life now.  I was a single his entire life and its like I've lost my other half but at least I know he is doing what he always strived for and is loving the excitement of it all even if for the first three or four weeks are the toughest.  I received a box from UPS with all of the things he was wearing the day he left.  That box came three days after he left!  The first thing I did when I opened the box was smell his clothes.  They had cologne all over them and it was sad but it made me feel good.  I know our children are going to be alright and they are going to come out of bootcamp men and women, not boys and girls anymore.  He is only 17.  I am going to send you a friend request so we can chat if you want to.  Hang in there and be strong.  I had to go shopping for groceries today and found myself crying at the store.  The emotions come in waves.  Sometimes I'm fine and the next minute I'm crying, but they are happy tears and proud tears.  Its just the transistion I'm going through as I'm sure you are too.  I will be at graduation on May 20th so hopefully if your daughter graduates that weekend we can meet!  Stay strong girl and my prayers are with your daughter and you.  Oh yeah, yesterday I received a form letter from his Commanding Officer with all the info on what you can/can't do the weekend of graduation among so much other info as well.  You should have received yours already and if not it should be to you soon.  Its about four pages long but at the end of the letter there is four lines that your child can write you a quick note!  He sounded great and said how much he missed and loved me and he would be able to write me and call me in a couple of weeks so that made me feel better.  So just keep checking  you mail everyday!  My name is Merrilee.  Check your friend invite list and add me to it.  Talk to you soon.
