While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Departing for BC on Wednesday Oct. 6th anyone else?
It would be nice to get to know some of the other moms.
I feel so numb. I try to stay awake every night because I don't want the next day to come. I am so proud of my boy.
He got into the diving program. He got scuba certified in June and has been practicing swimming in a private quarry. Yep, I was napping when I got the call from the officer. I explained that he needed somewhere big to practice his strokes that the public pools to crowded. Apparently he called his daughter and asked if she knew him and if he was a good kid. He DIDN'T get the ticket! :) He ALSO got his lesson, poison oak, and it lasted a month. He had to do his special ops test with it. He got very sick after pull ups, I fed him eggs for breakfast - OOOps!
He practiced underwater techniques all summer, tying knots, moving cynder blocks, having his air tank dropped and tubes tied. We would say, "Yes, he belongs to us."
I had my major breakdown with him on Thursday night. I told him how much he means to me and that I am going to miss him so much. I also told him how proud of him I am. That I won't know what to do with having my vehicle at my whim. He gave me such a tight hug. One that I will never ever forget. I still feel it now. He lets me hug him whenever I want without the "mom" fuss. I am not over doing it either.
We did some family pictures Sunday. I will post some.

Unfortunately there are two DEP October groups. I would say the first one listed has more activity so I would steer you more towards that one

Hi Diver Mom.....My son just shipped out 2 days ago, he is also got a contract as a Navy diver! Like you, I am sooooo proud of his decision to join the Navy but how I miss him. i think this will be the longest 2 weeks of my life waiting to get that first letter. My Husband is having a hard time w/his absents as well so i have tried to be strong for him as well. Anyway, i think our Son's might be in the same group so I wanted to send you a note.....stay strong!

Where are you from? I did go to MEPS Wednesday morning. Milwaukee, WI. Watching him be sworn in showed me that he was serious. I think that is what I needed. I got a call only 2 hours after seeing him. I was not prepared and infact had phone problems. I got a text after replacing my battery. then about 22 minutes later I got a call. I had been so angry that I missed the call, it meant the world they let him try again.
We are gone for a week, so I will have to have my friend watching my house let me know when the package comes. I couldn't be home. My 22 year old moved out this week too. We are visiting him. It has really helped.
What is your son's name? Tell me about him. How old is he?

Hi Diver Mom.....We live in the Jacksonville FL area, in a smaller town (own 3 horses so need property!) just NW of downtown Jax. Our Son, Brent (hope its ok to give first names??) is 18, graduated HS last fall and even though a good student, just was not interested in the collage route. After looking into the different military branches he felt the navy was his best fit. He loves the water, big time fisherman, spends summers in the FL keys (lots of skin diving) so was really excited about the diver program. He worked so hard on the PT requirements, earned a contract for the diver program. Of course we are sooooo proud of him, he has worked really hard and is very excited about his future in the Navy!
It must be doubly hard for you, 2 kids leaving home! We have another Son who is just 17 so as hard is it is to see one leave thank goodness one is still w/us. Also must be tough on you being so close to GL and still not able to see or speak to your son......I am SO ready for that first letter!

I would love to have horses. We have 2.1 acres in the city, so no horses allowed. It really sucks. I am thinking of doing animal fostering though.
My 18 year old doesn't want collage either, however, doesn't he realize he is? I think it is so funny. It might be tech or apprenticeship schooling, but still school. I hope he takes advantage of his education money, to let it go to waste.
You won't be too far away from them in Panama City then. That is nice.

Hi DM....just saw your post....have you gotten "the box" or a letter?? Just yesterday I recived a letter, really a form leter from the training center, but did have a paragraph from my son on the back....it was wonderful just seeing his handwriting! His PIR date is Dec. 2 so let me know if that's the same for your son. Now i have a address to send mail too...so happy.
I love WI, beautiful green pastures, was in Delavan 2x at Animal Gardens training parrots this past spring and early summer.....
Yes, close to PC but still a good 4 1/2 hr drive but that's OK w/ us
BTW, did you know that their is a group on here for "Diver Mom's" ? i am on that and it is wonderful....lyndahl

Hello , My daughter also arrived at GL on Oct 6th. We live in California , she flew out of San Diego.. We got the "phone call" that she had arrived at bc at about 11:30 pm (9:30 pm our time) ... I feel so sad... I miss her so much ...so does my husband...shes our only girl... we have a 17 and a 12 year old son...they also miss her already... I will be doing this all over again next month with my 17 year old ... he leaves for bc nov 21st ... I would love to stay in contact as I think we could really lean on each other for support...

You have joined the groups that you need to for now. When you know your SR's PIR date, go to GROUPS: Listed By PIR Date - Pass In Review (Boot Camp Graduation) and click on the date and join the group for that to connect with others with loved ones who are training with your daughter. Another group that you may want to check out is PIR Reference Information.

Hello, my son also shipped out of San Diego on Oct. 6th. I received the call from bc around 8:30 pm. I haven't gotten the form letter but it looks his PIR may be on Dec 2. He is constantly on my mind. I have to make myself focus on my work. Reading all the comments from other moms really helps.

I would like to say that I have felt much relief. I dont know how to explain it except that the anxiety of the "unkown" has left. I am smiling again. Yes a tear here and there. I just have to remind myself that this is what he wanted. I have to give him all the credit in the world for persuing his dream. It may not be pretty, what they have to go through to get there, but it does make them stronger and to think outside the box.
Many of us are scared to follow our dreams. I followed mine and the economy has hit me hard. Actually, both of my sons are following theirs. Maybe I taught them that. I would like to hope so. And even though the economy and HCRP is nearly destroying me, my kids chose to follow their dreams. I am a proud mom!
I would like to ad that everyone deals with situations differently, it is based on the experiences we have gone through. So for those of you moms who need to cry and inch your way into your kids rooms after they leave, that is okay. For you moms who dont notice that your kids are not in their rooms any longer playing video games, and do not need to shed a tear, that is your experinces in life. It is not okay to judge as that is the Lords job.
To all you moms, dads, friends and relatives, peace be with you.
