My kiddo is finally finishing up A school. She has orders to detach from her school in July, then has a report date a month later in August. What does she do in between that time?
Tags:
She will have Leave for some or all of that time. It would be a good idea for her to do RAP duty with a recruiter during some of her leave time (generally only a few hours or less a day) and earn 5 days of unchargeable leave once she reports to her first duty station.
is there a deadline for her to request to do that? we thought she had to put in that request early on.
She just needs to get with the recruiter to do the RAP duty and make sure that the paperwork gets turned in afterwards.
Brooke, 10 to 14 days of Leave is typical, but since Mommahead's Sailor had a long "A" School, it is possible that she put in for a longer time. If she didn't put in for 30 days, then she will have duty somewhere either before or after the Leave depending on when her Leave is--My Sailor had to report back to his "A" School location for several days after his Leave prior to leaving for his first duty station. Know that her orders could change even while she is home on Leave if there is time between the end of her Leave and when she is to report to the first duty station and they could have her report to the duty station immediately after her Leave is up rather than returning to the "A" School command. Unchargeable leave means that she would get back 5 days of leave as if she didn't take it just for doing the RAP duty and turning in the paperwork at her first command.
Your then Sailor won't have an option of much more than the 10 days because his "A" School is only about 9 weeks. Sailors earn 2.5 days of Leave for each month of service beginning on the day that they were sworn in at MEPS on the way to the RTC.
Also, check your My Page.
My son is going to come to my place for about five days...then go to Colorado to visit his dad...then fly to his assigned post from there. He's got 10 days. Tricky thing is that he has to have them reroute his plane ticket from Colorado to North Carolina, because, as it stands, it will be from San Antonio to NC...which doesn't take into account for that 10-day liberty. Seems inefficient...but I'm not complaining!!
They have to make the reservations from the "A" School to the duty station and then do the rerouting and the Sailor has to pay the difference because the Navy does not pay for transportation to or from Leave (except for COT Leave or as part of OTEIP).
The 10 days is Leave (vacation time) not Liberty.
If I've used any unfamiliar terms, check them out in What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology).
I left info for you on your My Page.
Thanks. I saw that. The more I read...the less I realize I know!! I'll get the terminology down some day!
