It is very thrilling!!! :D I'm very excited to hear from other families and friends who are experiencing much of the anticipation that I am. Makes me feel a bit calmer knowing he's with other boys who families care so much about them.
I'm missing him but trying to be strong. It'll be over before I know it, I'm sure. Plus I'm not to worried about him, (other than the typical hope he's staying warm, healthy and not to home sick worries.) He worked so hard to prepare himself for this and was very excited to start. Just keeping up writing letters and hopefully soon, we'll all get to hear from them. ^_^
We've been together for only half a year but have known each other much longer.
How old are your boys? It seems I know quite a few people entering basic the last couple of months. It's quite interesting to see where they are coming from, i.e; post high school, middle of college, post college, etc.
Hello Waving Girl!

All we can do is be strong and supportive. My son is 18, actually he will turn 19 on the 17th of this month while he is there. I hate that I will not be able to talk or see him for his birthday, that hasn't ever happened before but I know he will be okay. It will be harder for me to be away from him on his birthday! He also worked very hard to make this happen and I am so proud of his determination and focus getting this far. Are you going to PIR? Daria
Aw no, birthday at boot camp. :( That's pretty sad. Least he'll be done in time for christmas. So he has graduating from basic training, a postponed birthday and christmas to celebrate. Triple celebration when you see him. :)

I am going. ^_^ So excited, we didn't think he would be out until my classes had started up for winter term. lol Guess that means it'll be a surprise. :D
That's great waving girl that you will be there! Susan
Aw Daria, it will be sad to miss his birthday:( I will be in your shoes in May when D turns 20. Who knows where he will be then. FYI - I have heard that if they find out it's your b-day in BC it can get rough for them. I have told that if your SR is having a b-day not to send b-day cards that sing or write anything on the outside of the envelopes. Susan
My son, D, is 19 years old. He spent a year in college and signed up for the Navy in May. It's been a rough week, but I know this is what he wants and I am very proud of him :) Susan
My daughter is in Div 022. My daughter, Amber, left Oct 25. She is rated AE/CF, going to A school there in Great Lakes. Got the form letter, kid in the box, missed our first phone call from her. Thank God, my oldest daughter had her phone with her and my daughter got to speak to her. Not knowing when they will call is difficult... but there is enough of us that she should always get someone. Sending her off on the bus after her swear in was difficult, I guess like goodbyes always are. But now I am so excited for her, the changes that will be coming. We live in Texas and we both cried about a week before when we realized she won't ever be stationed here in Texas and that it would be years before she was back home with the family. Was so very sad for her, me and the entire family. But I told her I will be flying where ever she is so much she will probably be sick of me. So, it's not like I won't be seeing her. Of course, once she is on the ship that is a completely different story. I am curious, does anyone know if they will be able to come home after graduation. I had heard something about them possibly getting to due to their graduation hitting during the holidays and no new schools starting until January 3. Look forward to sharing with all of you! Tonya
My friends who are in A school right now are allowed to go home for a week or two over the holidays, so its fairly possible. *fingers crossed* :) I'm just thankful they won't be in boot camp over christmas.
Me too, waving girl! One of my sons friends leaves on Monday so he will be there for Thanksgiving and Christmas, yuk! Susan
Welcome Tonya! The news we have received today is if your child's PIR is 12/17 then they will be able to come home for Christmas and will have to report back to their A school by 12/28. It will be their responsibility to pay to go home and then from home to A school, but they can turn in forms later and get partially reimbursed. I think we will be creating a discussion on the main PIR 12/17/10 page that gives all the info we have.

On a personal note, my son D is in this division. We live in NC and he will be heading to A school in Pensacola. His rate is IT. I have also gotten the box, the letter and I received a phone call from him on Monday because he needed information for his clearance. He sounded really good and it was such a relief to talk to him! I told him to make sure that his division does a great job so we can get personal calls soon! LOL

I think you could arrange to have a helicopter drop you on a ship, LOL. I look forward to getting to know you better!

Susan
Hi Tonya! Where in Texas are you? We have family in San Antonio. Our son just left for BC Oct 5th. He will also be doing his A school at GL. He is going into engineering. I also plan on traveling to meet him at his bases and hope he will travel to SD when on leave.
I also missed that first call...my daughter is in this division...she is my youngest ...19 , so now I am officially an empty nester :(...excited for her. How did your daughter settle in? Mine, not too well but things are looking better now :) Good Luck and talk to you more.
