This will be a great place to share the news for our SRs in Division 86.  As we get letters or phone calls you can share the news with other moms/wives/gfs.  Be careful what you post though....we don't want to cause any extra issues for our SRs...I am sure they will be causing enough on their own as they figure things out.

Can you just pick one. I wanted red too but its no big deal. I feel we need to post soon.  My thought was white with a blue anchor... I guess.. Not sure how to post it, Any ideas ?  I am find with whatever but i would like to know soon so I can get them.

OK  THATS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   WHITE WITH BLUE ANCHOR

A few posted white with blue anchor on the scarf discussion... That may look pretty sharp.

I just added a message to the group page that is collecting colors so it should be added to the list

I am fine with white with blue anchors, How do we get these scarfs?

I mailed my son a combination of the BC questionares that you all sent and I want to thank you very much.  With any luck he will at least mail that back to me.  I feel like I am on island all alone and have nothing to contribute to this site.  I know he hates to write, he always has and I am trying hard to remember that.  I do have some questions and I hope you can answer them.  What is Marlinspike?  What does hell week consist of? I thought that was for the Marines and that the Navy just did the Battlestations.  How do we find out when Ship 09 Div. 086 does battlestations?  Is there somewhere on here that I can see what they are doing each week?  I don't even know what training he has gone through or what awards his division has received.  Thank you in advanced for your help in filling me in on my sons life.

crlmltn - Oh dear! Please don't feel like "you have nothing to contribute"...that is so sweet...but we are just glad you are here and our goal is to just try to welcome you and help you along on your journey. Asking questions and reaching out IS contributing!

Here you go!

Q. - What is Marlinspike?

The USS Marlinspike is a mock ship where the Recruits learn Basic Seamanship...line handling and watch standing. Here is the link to the Discussion here in your PIR group MARLINSPIKE (Just click it and it will take you there for a little video and pics)

Q. - What does hell week consist of? I thought that was for the Marines and that the Navy just did the Battlestations.

~~~Alot of people think "Hell Week" is a untouched term used only for the SEAL/BUDS training. However, people fail to realize that "Hell Week" originated long before the SEALS ever came about. In fact,the term was used since the 1800's. I do think the SEAL/BUDS guys are very fond of the word and added to their own vocabulary just like college students, police officers, etc.~~~
They use it in BC for Week Four as they have A LOT of Inspections etc...VERY intense week. Here is the run down of Week Four:
4-1 Day: - PFA for Olympic Flag, no more than 10-15 people can fail.
4-2 Day: - SAMT Laser gun training - Zone Inspection
4-3 Day: - Live Fire 9mm and Shotgun. You need to score 180 or more to receive a ribbon/medal for uniform.
4-4 Day: - Drill inpection for Drill Flag - Photo's - Photo's and Navy "yearbook" division in house compartment pictures - Tailor #2 (individual Dress uniforms
4-5 Day: - Trift Savings Plan class - Test #2 - Go to NEX for shampoo and conditioner
(When you go to the link for "What happens at Boot Camp...." below...there will be more detail about Week Four)
Q. - How do we find out when Ship 09 Div. 086 does battlestations?
You will have to write your Recruit and ask. One thing...if you find out Please do not post it anywhere on this site. It is considered "Ship Movement" by RTC and breaks OPSEC.
Q. - Is there somewhere on here that I can see what they are doing each week?  I don't even know what training he has gone through or what awards his division has received.
Here are some links for you as far as what they are doing in BC. These are all Discussions up above too!
Week-by-Week at Boot Camp
What are they doing in Boot Camp? Videos by Navy Recruiting
What happens at Boot Camp Day-per-Day up to week 6 from a Sailor
Thank you so much for that explanation.  I now understand why he has not written.  Let me ask you this, what week is he starting.  The way I figure if my calculations are right, he is starting week 6.  Is that correct?  Also, if he is not diong well and has to be set back for some reason, they call home.  Is this something the have to do, or something they can do if they choose?  How much notice do they get if the RDC decides they are not ready for Battlestations?  Woudl he know by now?  As I have said before, the phone call thing seems to be a contridiciton to me because no news is good news yet they have to earn the phone call.  I am probably worried about nothing, I just can't stop being the mom though.  It has been my role for 22 years.
Thank you so much for that explanation. You are very welcome!
I now understand why he has not written.  Let me ask you this, what week is he starting.  The way I figure if my calculations are right, he is starting week 6.  Is that correct?
I would guestimate that they are right around Week 5 going into 6...correct!
Also, if he is not diong well and has to be set back for some reason, they call home.  Is this something the have to do, or something they can do if they choose?
They are granted a call. Have not heard of any NOT calling. They can't make them call...but it is granted. It may not happen on the exact day that they get set back...it depends on what it is for. I think most call home to let their loved ones know there is a change in PIR their status.
How much notice do they get if the RDC decides they are not ready for Battlestations?  Woudl he know by now?
By the time a Recruit is ready for Battlestations, they have to have passed all of their required tests...academic., PFA, Swim etc. If they have not they will not go on to Battlestations. Week 6 is full of the Final tests before the Big Final of BS21. So they will know by the end of Week 6 persay.
As I have said before, the phone call thing seems to be a contridiciton to me because no news is good news yet they have to earn the phone call.
Yes...well...it does, but usually they "get" three calls...again no guarantee...but these are the common three with any additional being earned. They can lose calls too, either as a Division or individually for infractions. Sometimes they are "standing watch" or at an appointment when it is their Divisions scheduled time and so they cannot call...but most of the time they are allowed to make it up.
Even RTC's Family Guide talks about "the three"...(underline mine)
Phone calls:
The most important piece of advice here is to make sure that your Recruit has a phone card!
Recruits are generally given three phone calls throughout the duration of their training. The first call is conducted upon their arrival at RTC to notify a family member or friend they have arrived.
Recruits will generally be given the opportunity to place a second call midway through their training. There is no set schedule and no way to know when or if these calls will come.
Recruits will be granted a phone call when they fail a training requirement, or become injured or ill, which could delay their graduation.
The final call you will receive from your Recruit is the call letting you know they are no longer a Recruit, but a Sailor in the World’s Finest Navy! This call comes during their final week of training, generally within 24 hours of completing Battle Stations-21. This is an emotional call for the Sailors and their families. Unfortunately, again, neither RTC nor your local Recruiter will be able to provide Battle Stations-21 schedules, only your Recruit may release this information to you.
I am probably worried about nothing, I just can't stop being the mom though.  It has been my role for 22 years.
Possibly...but isn't that how we moms "get" our loved ones through stuff! LOL
Praying for a call for you!
Hello everyone.  I am very excited to start working on the scarves.  I do not know how this works but I gather that we buy our own scarves and put the anchors on ourselves.  If I am wrong please correct me.  I would like to help in this.  I thought it would be nice if we all had the same anchor and I found a site that has patches of anchors starting at .69 cents each.  I am not sure if i can post the site here but I am going to do so and if I can't please let me know and I will delete it right away.  The site is http://www.1ferretstreasures.com/servlet/the-Nautical%2C-Navy%2C-Bo....  If we could look at them or have the person in charge pick an anchor for us to purchase we can purchase it and all have the same one.  Then we could decide where to iron it on the scarf.  I was thinking one in the middle of each side and one on the bottom of each side.  I also thought it would nice to put the ship and division numbers and iron or sew them on the scarves also.  What do you ladies think?  If I am stepping over my bounderies please just let me know.  I am just trying to get involved in my sons life even if he doesn't write his lonely ole mom.
Hi all, I am also excited.  I find I need something to keep my mind occupied but still in support of my daughter.  I have a question.  Are we doing a winter white color or a snow white color.  I was out today and only found the off white color. By the way I looked at the your website for anchors, plenty of options.  I like the 2" Navy colored anchor. The navy trimmed in gold is nice too.  Whatever you all decide is fine with me.
We do need to decide if we are going to get them from the site because we need to consider the mail time.  I am fine with what ever you all decided, but let's make the decision in the next day or so.
