This may seem like a silly question but what do I wear to my son's graduation from boot camp in a few weeks.  Is it dressy?  Will nice slacks do?  I'm not sure.  Should my husband wear a suit?

This has been addressed many times on here if you want to read more. Here is my short and sweet version!

Your Sailor is dressed in his ABSOLUTE BEST - after accomplishing the hardest few weeks of his life - a MAJOR CELEBRATION!!! I would dress nice - slacks are fine - just nice ones! A suit - I don't think that is necessary - just nice!
Nevadamom........ Yes ,nice slacks will do. You will see every kind of dress at the PIR, but I would recommend like a business casual dress......even for your husband. Really anything goes.......some people wore jeans, t-shirts, some wore dresses, some wore slacks, some wore suits, some wore pants and a shirt.......... you name it I seen it there. I myself wore a nice pair of slacks and nice top.......and be sure to take a long a swearter even if its warm..........it always seems to be cold at the ceremony even though it is inside. Good Luck, have fun.
Comfortable shoes. LOL, the sailors shine theirs, so wear nice ones!
I WAS WONDERING ABOUT THE DRESS CODE MYSELF AND I'M SO RELIEVED TO HEAR WHAT YOU HAD TO SAY BECAUSE NOW I KNOW THAT WHAT I'VE PICKED OUT TO WEAR TO MY SON'S PIR IN AUGUST IS JUST PERFECT! (;
I recently read that the Navy has changed their uniforms. On YouTube see New Navy Uniforms. Does anyone know if they will graduate in their white cracker Jack uniforms or if they are now graduating in the new ones? New ones are black pants and khaki short sleeve shirts with black Garrison hat. It looks like the marine uniform.
No they are still graduating in the white uniforms May-Oct and blue Nov-April (months are approxamate)
Hello, they will wear their dress uniform and this time of the year it is the white one. In the winter it looks the same but is black (they call it their dress blues). The black pants and khaki short sleeve shirt is not something they would be wearing for PIR.
There isn't really a dress code for graduation, but for me, I think the best thing to do is dress in a way that will bless your son for pictures and stuff like that. My husband is graduating in September and he always likes it when I'm casual and without makeup, amazingly enough. I'm also very far along in my pregnancy, so I'm dressing in a denim skirt and a t-shirt that says "Sailor's Wife....back off!" LOL, it's what my husband will love. So I encourage you to dress in a way that will bless your son. :)
My son is graduating August 13th and I would love to have a t-shirt that says that, tho - Sailor's Mom! Haha...wouldn't know where to get one tho. I also thought about wearing a Navy t-shirt and khaki's, do u think that would be appropriate? Thank-u so much. Kerry
You will see all types of dress at PIR, as mentioned before from dressy clothes to jeans and t-shirts. Wear nice shoes that are comfortable to walk in for you will have to walk a little ways from where you park to the hall. It was fall when my husband and I were there and I wore a black denim skirt and matching jacket with a neck scarve and my husband wore dress slacks and shirt and dress shoes and leather jacket. Be comfortable and look nice for him! OH how I still remember when they opened up the big doors at the hall for the sailors to march in. I get goose bumps still see the sea of uniforms marching in formation to the hall. When we went there were 10 divisions that day so there were alot of sailors and alot of guests. Enjoy the day! It is one I will never forget.
Hi Kerry,

You can go to www.cafepress.com

They have some AWESOME t-shirts. Go check it out. I'd order today, if you want to do something like that since your graduation is less than a week from now. :) I think you can pay for faster shipping.

There are a lot of T-shirts on there, and I think you'll find one you love. They focus totally on military wives/girlfriends/daughters/etc.
