I was wondering what most people wear to PIR.

Wear what is comfortable for you but you want to look nice. They are in their dress blues and you should be dressed nicely as well. Be prepared for cold weather, shoes should be comfortable for walking in cold, icy, snowy weather if you plan on taking the shuttle (there is a good 10-20 minute walk to the PIR hall) Just remember that this is a formal occasion.
Thank you

PIR 1-7-11. Flying from California to Illinois with one carry on bag. Warm clothes take up LOTS of room, so dressing warm and nice is proving to be a challenge. The only thing I've packed thus far are sweat clothes for my SR so he can relax in the hotel room. Appreciate learning there is up to a 20 min shuttle walk to PIR hall. Getting very excited to see my son.
At PIR 12-17-10 we saw people dressed in everything from dress to shorts, more people were in jeans than were dressed up, we wore dress pants but wished we had not worried about it and dressed in more comfortable clothes since you are waiting a long time for PIR to start.
The best advice I've ever seen on this subject is "dress to the uniform".  If your sailor is going to be in his/her dress uniform, you probably want to wear something appropriately dressy.  That being said, you do need to be WARM.  Have a wonderful time at PIR.  Its an experience I'll never forget.
