While those of you who sew continue to sew (thank you ver much) here is our destination

Amphibous Assault ship The USS KEARSARGE.  It has been fun chatting with our chaplain, who says they have opened a new space for our Sailors and Marines to  unwind called Holy Joe's Café.  Are we ready to stock it?  Yes!

EVERYTHING in Holy Joe's Cafe is free to our guys and gals!

So, here's the request list:

Beef jerkey covered by Jack's Links

Sunflower seeds

Gum (no hard candy or chocolate)

Coffee--all sorts, both instant, packetts and brew type (I'm saying some tea, too.)

Single packet drinks

Personal hygiene products

DVDs

The crew loves any TV show. I've noticed the popular ones are: Dexter, 24, Prison Break, NCIS, True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, House, Spartacus. I obviously wouldn't expect you to get all of these, but it is at least a selection to choose from.

Board games: Storage space is slim, so bulky board games may be difficult. I know that Cranium, Catch a Phrase, and games like that are popular.

Can you add to the list--of course. (No though, on books.)

Lots of cards and handmade pictures from the kids--think SPRING AND ST. PATTY'S DAY

Pack what you can in gallon ziplock type bags so the group can help pick up their godies. And of course, the pillowcases

It's now just a stitch over 1,000 needed.  Chaplain says: 1028 total

216 female

812 male

In the meantime, keep those sewing machines tuned up and continue sewing!  '

Love ya

Carol

That is wonderful Sissi!  With things heating up over there right now, it's so great to know they are going to be getting some reassurance and support from those of us safe here at home.  I hope my box gets there soon!  Thanks for posting your message!
I love that the boxes are arriving just when tensions are mounting!  A moms love should bring that special comfort to so many...
I really hope they're comforted and reassured.  I'm kind of reassured myself because I figure how bad could tensions be if they're still delivering mail, right?  Or is that just my twisted logic.  Either way, that's what I'm telling myself.
That is kinda what I was thinking too Sissi!  Glad the mail is getting through!
YEAH YEAH Mail is coming aboard Sissy ----AMAZING and these kiddos really need it right now !! HOOYAH MOMS lets the fun fun fun begin (they have no clue whats about to happen)

Thank you emails from a few Kearsarge kiddos!

My name is XXXXXX  XXXXX, and I am stationed aboard the USS KEARSARGE.  We have been out to see for over 6 months and still have a way to go  ahead of us.  Today to my surprise I received a care package from your program and I would just like to thank everyone from Mollys adopt a sailor, ne Illinois.  Everyone from Bobby Snyder Jr to Girl scout troop 70228!  So thank you once again, the package was a moral booster and a blessing.  Thank you and god bless.

Sincerely,

XXXX XXXXX

Today the Kearsarge received the care packages that the Packing Party sent to us.  Thank you so very much for doing this for our ship, it was greatly appreciated.  All of the Sailors and Marines on board enjoyed them!  It is good to know that there are people out there that still support our military members.  God Bless.

XXXX XXXXX

Here's one more...this one made me cry too! It makes me so sad that they don't have what they need for their deployments or get no care packages at all! :*(

I just want to say thank you for all the support you have given the Kearsarge on this deployment. For a lot of us we don’t get care packages and to receive them from people we don’t know, really just gives us a reason to get up and do our job correctly every morning. Thank you to all of the volunteers that made the care packages for us. We really appreciate everything you all do for us. I know for a sailor like me who’s whole family is in the military and deployed at the same time, it’s tough getting some of the things I need when I need it but thanks to you all I was able to have some of the personal things I need to make it thru this deployment. I really just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart I appreciate every single individual that made this all happen. You all do make a difference in our lives

From the Kearsarge

Hello.

My name is Lance Corporal Axxxxx  Rxxx and I’m a marine currently deployed with the 26 MEU aboard the USS Kearsarge.   I, along with my Navy counterparts, received your care packages from Chaplain Long the other day and I just wanted to send you an email of gratitude to express my thanks for you and all those involved in the project.  It means a lot to me and those around me that you at home would take time out of your days to organize such a group, prepare all of those packages, and then send them out.  I know it’s not just me that looks at the news and see’s them focusing on “news” such as Lindsay Lohan’s most recent criminal charges as a highlight and wonder if people back home have forgotten that there’s a large number of us out here on the sea, in Iraq, and right now especially in Afghanistan.  It serves as a wonderful morale boost to those of us deployed to be able to see how much those at home still have us in their hearts and prayers.   Thank you for the time and effort that you put into the great care packages.

We heard from the USS Kearsarge today.  They received the St Patrick's Day bags.  Here is the first thank you note:

To Whom it Concerns:

This is AT1 Hxxxx  from the mighty USS Kearsarge (LHD-3) forward deployed to the Mediterranean Sea currently and we just received what seems to be and astronomical amount of care packages from your

Organization and I just want you to know how appreciative I am along with my co-workers throughout the ship of what you guys are doing for us and possibly many other forward deployed units of the Armed Services.

I thank you from my heart for all that you do and we surely know that we are appreciated by most back on the homefront.

V/R,

AT1 (AW/SW) J. Hxxxx

USS Kearsarge LHD-3

DEPLOYED
