Does anyone know where the first letter home gets sent?  I am divorced from my son's father and my son lived with his Dad the last few years.  Is it up to my son to mail two letters or will I have to get the information from my ex-husband?  Hoping he will send to me first.

The first "Letter" is actually a packet of info about PIR, etc. They have 4 lines at the bottom of the last page of a form letter to jot a note to the recipient. The recruit addresses the envelope and there is only one. They have a very, very short time to jot that 4 line note at the bottom. Our form letter and packet came the day after the "kid in a box" made it home.

They will be given a window of time on Sundays to write home and the letters are mailed on Monday. They can send as many letters as they can write in that short amount of time. When my sailor was in boot camp, sometimes he'd write a short letter and use the rest of his time to tidy up and catch up on anything he might need to do for inspections or help another recruit with preparations.
Thank you for your time to write me back.
My son moved in with his dad a few years ago too. I asked if he would please send everything to me and I would promise to get the word out asap. I recieved the box and the form letter and made a copy of it and mailed it to his father the same day. When did your son leave? It takes about 3-7 days to recieve the box and the form letter follows about two days after that.
Thank you for taking time to write me back.
Making sure your ex got a copy of the form letter speaks volumes about you as a person. Your son is a lucky. He will do great.

I am still waiting on mine! My son left 12/14 and I have not heard his voice since. I did receive the "Box", however, still waiting on hearing his voice.   I've read that some  have received their form letter, who left the same time... But, I know the form letter gets sent to whomever, the recruit has addressed the letter to. I am divorced as well, and information is sent to whom the recruit(sailor) designates. I hope he will send to you first, as well!  I'm with you all the way!

My son is ship 3  Div 080

Maybe you could give me some insight... being you were 2 weeks ahead of me
