Hi all, My son is serving on submarine based in Virginia fresh from Groton Conn. Apparently they are on work ups or deployed (don't know). I assume they are not allowed to tell us anything when they leave or return. It's been (3) weeks and I haven't heard from him just wondering how this works.

If your son is out, it could be longer before he can call you. Our son was on a sub. The longest was 7 weeks.

See if you can find the Family Readiness Group and the ombudsman for his boat (use google).  He may have to verify you are who you say you are for security reasons, but once that happens, they can help keep you in the loop. Well, as much as subs are allowed to do.

Thanks, still searching for info. but no luck. Can not locate a recent group or ombudsman for his boat (ssn750)

Try this link to the Ombudsman Registry.

https://ombudsmanregistry.org/?m=login

Your contact info will be verified by the boat's ombudsman.

FRG (Family Readiness Group) and Ombudsman. The person is generally (but not always) a spouse of some one (typically an officer) on the boat. Make sure your son submits your name (and husband) to the Ombudman to put on her/his contact list. My son's boat had a secret Facebook group. She/he will add you the the group (if there is one).  Not all boats have groups.

Prior to my son's deployment, we received a big packet with a beautiful brochure containing phone numbers and names. Apparently not every boat distribute packets.

Good luck.

Ok, so apparently all info. and support is dated for this boat. I see they had a recent change of command. But all is well my son showed up last night at home. They had been out training and he did not have his phone. He said the COB's wife is the ombudsman so I will try to contact her for info.
