While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hi Barb, my son just PIR on2/11 and is waiting to start A school for MM. . . . thanks for all the info onMM helps me out so i don't worry so much...he's a young man on his own now.. (22yrs old). actually waiting for some liberty so i can bring up his laptop , camera and music for him.. waiting on phasing up...

Congratulations on your son's PIR! My sailor really enjoyed A School, and made a lot of friends that he is still in touch with. He was recently deployed on the USS Abraham Lincoln, and interestingly, even though he is a conventional MM, he has been assigned to the Reactor division for this deployment. He is excited to be learning another aspect of MM, and is busy with his "quals" which need to be checked off by his superior on the ship. He is learning that you go where the Navy sends you, and you work where they need you - good life lessons for everyone! Good luck to your son - he will phase up quickly if he follows directions and keeps up with his school work. We made several trips to GL to visit, especially since my son was there over the holidays - there is a lot to do and see in the area, so have fun! Nice to meet you!

Really??? did you have any set backs??? if not what where the dates u went in bc and grad and wher u a grad and go and how exactly long did that take??? i kno my recruiter told me that 9 times out of 10 they will put me in the auxillary instead of the pit...but when you say super hot you mean like what lol??? thats the only major problem i have is being hot...and what about being dirty? i heard it was a dirty job as well! basic training is not really a big deal to me its just the ranking up and waiting sooo long to get there lol!!! Was the a school extremely hard?? and how is the working hours like 16 hours out a day or soo?? or wat lol!! im sorry but i have a pile of questions! and im soo glad that i finally get to talk to a female and get her point of view!!!! lol i leave april 19 sooo im trying to get prepared and get in the mind frame what im getting myself into lol!! pleaseeee help all that you can !!! and thanks for what you hav already contributed !!! best wishes to u as well on that deployment!! :) i bet u will have fun!!

yea see on here i see that alot of people children are going to Goose Camp....but nowhere in my contract it list goose camp...all it says is great lakes 8 weeks...soooo we'll see i guesss my best friend just grad and they changed her a school sooo its just a waiting game i guess and yeh the heat is really going to get to me but i guess i have to suck it up lol Thanks alot i needed this info!

There are two kinds of MMs, one is nuke, the other is conventional. If you were in the nuclear power program, you'd know it. Nukes work on ... surprise ... nuclear reactors. Conventional MMs do not. Your A school is in Great Lakes and is much shorter than a nuke's training.
I was an ET. (There are also nuke ETs, I was conventional). Even though I went ot boot camp ages ago, I can tell you: get your General Orders and Creed memorized perfectly, run, run, run, pack a sense of humor, keep your mouth shut and your ears open, and get the word "OK" out of your vocabulary.
You'll do great. You will hate it the first couple of weeks, everyone does. Boot camp is not The Navy, and neither is A school. The fleet is a lot different. You'll be amazed at what you can do, and annoyed at the amount of chores, LOL.
