Hello everyone! My boyfriend and I would like to get married after his graduation from basic training which is February 1st. I still don't know how much time he'll have before he goes to A school in Texas but we would like to go to Texas together. I know we are not gonna have a lot of time but we want to make it possible. Any advice? Suggestions? As far as housing what would we need to do/get done?

Are you trying to get married when you come to see him for PIR?

First, congrats on your engagement, but I have some not so good news for you.

You will not be allowed to get married graduation weekend.  Sailors are expressly forbidden from this, and if you try to do it anyway, he will get in a LOT of trouble.  Also, depending on how long his school is, he won't be authorized to have his family there with him.  Of course, it's a free country and there's nothing to stop you from moving where you want, but there's a good chance, especially when he first gets there and hasn't phased  up yet, that he will not be allowed to live with you or even go off base much.  (they earn more privileges as they phase up, the amount of time it takes and the specifics on the restrictions depends on the specific command and on the Sailor).  Some commands have a curfew for the Sailors in A school.  (To move you on the Navy's dime and be more sure that you can live together, the class instruction length of the school needs to be 6 months, and you had to be married before he got his orders, which for Sailors going to A school out of boot camp, this means married before he left.)

He also needs to let his command know he wants to get married, they will then advise him on paperwork, etc that will be needed.

What I would strongly recommend is he go by himself to Texas, and as soon as he gets there, he talks to his chain to get the wedding stuff going, then, once his paperwork is good to go, you fly out there and get married (so you are "official" and "count" as far as the Navy goes before he gets his orders coming out of A school).  Then you can decide about you moving out there, or waiting for your first duty station.

I'm sorry, I know this isn't what you were hoping to hear... :-(  Still though, you can still get married, it just will need to be a few more weeks later :-)

Since he is going to "A" School for HM, you should join the group,  HM (Hospital Corpsman) A School in San Antonio (clickable link) and check on there about how others handled getting married in "A" School. During INDOC, they will ask how many plan to get married during "A" School and will provide the guidelines about how they can do that and the timeframe for doing it.

HM "A" School is 19 weeks, but it could be longer than that if he is in Holding for a while before classing up.  Some in the HM rating will go to "C" School after "A" School.

Thank you all for the info and advice! I found out that HM A School is roughly 3 1/2 months so that's not bad at all(: I guess we'll wait til after his A School graduation!

You may want to get married before he gets his orders to his first duty station if you want him to have accompanied orders, but that is up to the two of you.

Ok so would that be while he's in A School? Sorry I'm new to this

Yes, they get their orders while they are in "A" School.  Like I indicated before, during INDOC someone will ask if there are any Sailors who plan to get married and will give them instruction in when that can happen so the future spouse will be able to be on the orders when the time comes and how to get the paperwork and chit requesting permission to marry.

If it is not mentioned during INDOC, he needs to inquire about it so that everything is in order.

Yes, but make sure he's done all the proper paperwork and chit writing before you get hitched.  Don't want him to start off on the wrong foot with the Navy by not going through the proper channels.  And don't worry, it won't be as strict in the fleet when compared to BC and A school, still strict enough but not nearly as much after he gets settled into his first command.  Good luck.

LOL, just noticed you're from Chicago!  I'm in Great Lakes.  Hey!  So, where's all the snow at?? We're waiting for a white winter over here.
