My sailor is in bootcamp as of December 11th. He is in Ship 02 Division 913. We had talk of getting married in Chicago after bootcamp but I wanted to plan a wedding for after a school. Does anyone know if I will be in his 1st orders? I am desperate for answers.

No, you will not be on his orders.  Orders are issued toward the middle/end of A school, and will be either accompanied/authorized to move dependents or unaccompanied/no dependent move authorized.  Because your sailor will be single when the orders are issued, he'll get "unaccompanied".  If it is anywhere in the continental US, you can move there on your own dime.  If he gets overseas orders, you are pretty much out of luck for a year or two.

(Yes, for the nitpickers, I know married sailors can go unaccompanied, but I'm trying to keep it simple)

Stay flexible on your wedding plans and do not put down any non-refundable deposits.  You might think you know when he'll be done with A school, but be assured you cannot figure in the hold times accurately, and sometimes they have to go through additional training which is not reflected in the given "seat times".

So, should we plan on getting married in February after his graduation ceremony in Chicago? I need some help. I'm a wreck just thinking about this.

Calm down, you have time to figure this out, thousands of couples do.  Keep breathing.

You can't marry PIR weekend, they are told not to do so, and there simply is no time to get it done (takes two days).

What A school is he going to?  Do you know?  If it is not in Great Lakes, he will be flying out, probably on Saturday morning.  That's the first thing to figure out.  Hard to give advice about A school marriages, as there are a lot of variables depending on where the school is and how long it will be.

Next, join one or two of the girlfriends groups on this site, you will find this is a very common discussion.  You may find the other ladies have good frist hand experiences to share with you.

Good luck!

Anti M has given you some things to consider.  Once he gets to his "A" School, they usually ask during INDOC if there is anyone who is planning to get married and let them know the timeline for doing that so the spouse will be on the orders and how to complete the chit requesting permission to get married. If it doesn't come up, he will need to bring it up so that everything is in order.

You may want to check out and join one or more of these groups: Girlfriends, Fiances, and Wives of Sailors (this is the most active and the one Anti M refers to), Navy Girlfriends, PROUD NAVY GIRLFRIENDS:), and/or Boot Camp Girlfriends.  They may have additional input for you.

I see that you have not joined the group for your SR's PIR date.  Join the group, PIR 02/08/2013 TG 13 - 14 Divisions (089-100, 806 and 913), to connect with others with loved ones training with him. You may also want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups as well as in the PIR group. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups. The Page, 900 Divisions, within Boot Camp Moms will be of interest to you since you have a recruit in a performing division. I believe that Division 913 is Ship Staff/Honor Guard.

Do you know what his rating (job/specialty) will be and/or where he will go for "A" School?  There are groups for most of the "A" Schools and/or ratings.
