If my son is Grad and Go, does that mean he will not be able to spend time with us on the weekend after graduation?

hm - it all depends on where his "A" school is. Sometimes it is just "across the street" - and he just has to move then gets to spend lots of time with his family. If it is in another state - probably not. But. . . you do get to go to the airport and sit with him while he wait for his plane. That could be a few hours (better than nothing). You can also give him his cell phone and computer (if he has one) then.

PIR is still worth attending!
I think your son is going to A school at Great Lakes right?? If so, and he's G&G then there is a chance he'll get to have overnights with you!! Depends on his A school rules. He'll have to move his gear after PIR...this will take five hours or so. Most families go back to the hotel to wait. Make sure he knows the # to call and ya'll know where to meet.

Bring toothbrush, pj's and comfortable clothes for him to were in the hotel room...also bring his cell and laptop.
Also, have you been reading the comments/discussions on your PIR group...often there is a lot of info there.
Actually, he is going to Pre-Buds, and from what I understand is across the street. I have been visiting PIR group, but I was just confused, because on the phone, my son said he had all weekend with us but had to be back on base in the evening. In his letter he said he was grad and go, and I thought that meant we only had a couple of hours together. Thank you for all of your advice! I will bring toothbrush, etc.. just in case!!
From what I understand, if you are grad n go, and are shipping out for A school, that is when they only have a few hours. If they are grad n go but their schooling is at Great Lakes, that is a different story. Your son told you right.
Thank you for the info. That definitely clears things up:)
Chris'Mom...the RDC's will not tell them they get overnights if they are G&G to GL...the A school will tell them. That is where the confusion comes in...the rcts don't know this. They have to go by what the RDC's tell them but we know differently.
I just got another letter from my son, and he told me he accidentally circled grad n go on the questionaire I sent him. He actually has liberty weekend but has a 9 pm curfew. So I'm glad we get to spend time with him!!:)
How did you find out that he was a Grad-N-Go?
Our granddaughter wrote her Mom and told her that this is what she has. She is in Div. 331 and they have been told, I guess. I don't know why some have been told tho and others have not.
He told me in a letter.
agrier87 here is the link to your PIR group http://www.navyformoms.com/group/pir12310

Grad and go means that he'll have Friday after PIR with family and then leave for A school very early Sat morning. Most families will meet the Sailors at the airport to see them of (usually the wait is several hours)

Here is a good group to get more info about G&G http://www.navyformoms.com/group/gradgoinfo
