For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

We have been encourage to go. Mostly by our recruiters and other Navy parents too. Which is fine I don't want to miss it either. I was just worried about how much time I will actually get to spend with her for her first liberty weekend. :) My daughters A School is suppose to be in Florida. So I guess I will have to wait to hear from her. I read that about the Great Lakes A School from the RTC guide as well. Thank you for your help..I appreciate it

Since your daughter's A School is out of state, you will most likely get at least Friday with her. You might also get Saturday and maybe even Sunday with her as those going to other states pretty much depart anytime Saturday through Tuesday after PIR. You might also be able to meet her at the airport and give her some things to take with her to A School.

I was sure disappointed that my daughter was listed as grad and go when we were told she wasn't. She's flying to Florida so we get maybe a few hours with her? I think they need to include departure info (when they don't stick to the published plan). They state only those remaining in GL are grad and go. Now I'm stuck in Chicago for 4 days but see my daughter for only 1!

Our daughter was a grad and go, and she flew out to Florida too. But we did end up having Friday and Saturday with her. So I do hope you will be lucky to see her 2 days too. We too had extra days in Chicago, But we did have a great time in the city. Lots to see and do there. Its just hard to say another goodbye to your daughter after such a short lived reunion.

Well this is the military and your recruit now runs on the Navy time not on ours anymore it is rough but it is the fact of life for them now. Boot camp PIR's are all training not only for the recruit but for parents to accept the time we get and make the most of it. You will learn it is best not to plan ahead to much because things change at the last minute I cant tellyou how many times the boys said we are coming home only to have plans changed it got to the point that they wouldnt tell me until they hit the tunnel to the interstate then I had 8 hours to get ready. Best advice is be flexible and make the most of your time together.

Only person who knows for sure when they will be leaving for "A" School from bootcamp is your soon to be Sailor. Anything else is just a guess by someone. RTC PAO can NOT tell you who will be leaving when. Also writting your recruit and asking them, things change all the time. So yes they could have "thought" they where going to be in GL for the whole weekend than find out they leave the day after PIR.
No one is saying anyone has to come to PIR, that is a personnel choice the families make to attend the biggest event in a Sailors career.
I know my mom and step dad didn't get to attend due to money. But when I put on Chief they attend that event. Only event bigger in a Sailors career is putting on Chief.

Angie, what a great accomplishment! Congrats! :)
Our daughter's grad. was 5/6 and we only had Fri. after grad. til 7Pm and then at the airport on Sat. with her. Her plane flew out at 9AM. It is disappointing, but like someone else said.. make the most of what time you do have. I think it was REALLY hard on my daughter to finally be able to see us, plus her 5 siblings, but have such limited time. BUT, it is what it is.. We miss her LOTS!! We are looking forward to when she's able to get leave and be home for a stretch.

I hope everyone just makes the most of the time with their Sailor when they get to see them. I hope people don't complain to their loved on, they can't do anything about it. Enjoy the time with them, even if it is just dinner and time at the airport.
