We found it cheaper to fly into Milwaukee, plus it's a much smaller airport and about a 45 minute ride to GL.

I would check fares into both places, but we flew into Milwaukee.  Nice, small airport - easy to get rental car and easy to get to Great Lakes.

thanks for letting me know i was also wandering what time the graduation ceremony starts if you know

you need to get to GL for graduation around 7:00 AM for a good seat I believe it starts at 8:30

We flew into Milwaukee and found it to be a much easier drive than any times I've driven around Chicago. Also, the rental cars seemed to be cheaper, and I believe taxes are cheaper as well.

However, if you're not planning on renting a car, you can catch a train from O'Hare to right next to the military base, then catch a cab from there.

I would also suggest, if you are renting a car, don't drive it onto the base. You can park in the train parking lot for $2 and walk in much quicker. The parking lot is about 50 feet from the entrance and you don't have to wait in the long line of cars to get in.

debbiewaters25,

Start you preparation by reading all the other recent forum discussions and the reply comments.  Many will apply to your situation.  For example, we have put together a Survival Guide - her is the information what was posted previously.  Take you time and click on link provided in the discussions.

Start with our Survival Guide for Navy For Moms Newbie (clickable link). Watch the Videos. Look at the PDF files of boot camp processing days. Click on the links to all the important groups and join them (Bootcamp moms, Leaving for Bootcamp in June). There are tips on how to use this site. Keep in mind the videos and PDF files may take some time to download the first time you try it. It'll look like nothing is happening. Be patient.

The link to the Recruit Training Command is important. Print out the Family Guide.

I noticed you haven't joined your PIR group yet. If you have your form letter - find the PIR (Graduation) date provided. I am guessing it's probably 7/13. Please click on one of the links below. The PIR groups are members whose sons/daughters have3 the same PIR date.

                   PIR: July 13, 2012             TG 35 - 10 Divisions (213–220, 816 & 935)

                   PIR: July 6, 2012               TG 34 - 10 Divisions (205–212, 815 & 934)
